i've asked this before kind of....but it was a side note in the post i put it in, so i'll full out ask it this time, and see what you guys hav to say

I just got a dark smoke windscreen for my blue 9r, and i think it looks great!, but i also personally think it clashes a little being blue black and silver w/ the orange buell decals. so what i'd like to do is start of with making my frame black, using a cheap method, i dont want to powder coat or anything like that. is there a good aluminum paint that i could cover my frame with?....

I've seen that you can buy the buell black frame paint in rattle cans from American Sport Bike.com orother places, but i'm assuming thats just for touch up since it only comes in like 12oz cans, or am i wrong, and would that in fact work?

in the long run i'd like to powder coat my rims black, buy some black ones, or paint them....but that'll be later, so for now what do you guys think about the frame?....

ps. were is a good place to find some black buell decals to replace the orange ones?...

you wont get the entire frame without stripping it down and that WILL be expensive. I think the best route if you really want to change the look/color of the frame would be to pick up a set of those full length frame protectors in carbon fiber or fiberglass.

I have seen partial paint jobs and in my opinion they never look right. (note I might be a little overly picky, my first job in middle school was in a body shop and I have done work in such shops on and off ever since including estimating, managing, repair etc.)

alright, i do know what your talking about, and i've seen them before in pictures, but to be honest the only good place i know were to find buell parts is American Sport Bike.com and i was just looking on there and all i could find is ones that only cover part of the frame, like directly around the pucks. and all i could find is carbon fiber. If i got them i'd like to get just flat black ones.

So did i just miss them on American Sport Bike.com or do they make ones that cover the entire frame?

with only a quick search I found these.

http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/69.html

granted they are carbon fiber but they are also full length. only the rear set is exposed.

I'll keep looking

$232.00 is pricey!, plus shipping! specially for something as simple that i only want b/c it looks good (it does say that it'll help protect the frame in the event of dropping the bike so thats good) but still 200 is pricey for me, i may just keep looking, and see what other options i have

If you get that, you wouldn't need to bondo your frame : )

I had the frame, swing arm, forks, and just about everything else other than the wheels powder coated black on my old 05 XBSX. Parts and labor was around $3800 (this includes ceramic coating my exhaust & header). I lucked out that I got all this essentially for free after a insurance settlement from a parking lot accident (some lady backed into my bike). A picture of the end result is in my profile.

i already have bondo....unless i can find something like that carbon fiber cover thing for less $$$ i think i'll stick with leaving it silver for now, b/c even painting it with a profesional would be pricey, maybe i'll just leave it silver for this next year, and get a frame cover at xmas when it rolls back around again

check you local body shop and see if one of the body guys will make a fiberglass cover for you.

or better yet go to a hobby shop that caters to R/C aircraft. some of the best Glass guys I have ever met are R/C guys. I bet they could make you some without a mold. just ask around who is good with fiberglass that works on commission.

vinyl graphics are pretty cheap. and when applied correctly they're tough to peel off. but they will eventually fade or peel. you can get really creative with them too. you may want to look into that. if there's a shop local to ya, all it would take is stoppin by on the bike one day to have him pattern them. tha buell decals can be found on fleabay from time to time. good luck bro

im in the process of painting my frame gloss black.i sanded it with 220/360,then primed it with a good primer, sprayed in in black and clear coated it,for protection where it will be rubbing my legs i plan on getting a clear plastic film..like a tank protector.i have done others with spray bombs, they sell a textured black rustolum that looks great and holds up good, dupli color wheel paint or vht epoxy also will work great. the decals can be ordered from the dealer..just got mine and they were cheap,im painting my bike but you can put the small decal over the ol decals, the large ones remove with a heat gun and time, use degreaser to remove the stickey mess and your all set.

On my firebolt I had 20+ pieces powdercoated to include the frame and swingarm.

I did all my own teardown and rebuild and I only had about a grand into powdercoating and blasting.

i set it up on a stand and removed the tires and rear shock so everything moves out of the way.i got everything that can be seen when it done. the frame and swing arm look great in gloss black .the frame is like part of the body and brings the bike together.ithe red shock and brushed aluminum parts stand out much better.if i went with chrome or polished parts it would look great

See you guys have my brain turning more about things to do to my bike. Though I was thinking of doing the frame in a flat black like the 09 models.
