Gee, you guys are a little hard on the HD technical development department.

I mean just last year they introduced a new frame for the touring models that doesn't flex in the middle like a dime store hinge.

Even though the stock bikes don't have them, you can get floating rotors for you disc brakes, and some models even have dual front rotors. Same size as the rear for convenience. Oil coolers are available too, right from the factory. Optional of course.

I could go on and on.

Like just take a look at this quote right from the Harley site:

The 2010 Wide Glide® motorcycle is a new Harley-Davidson® Dyna® model done up old-school chopper style – a low, stretched-out custom motorcycle with forward foot controls that give its rider a real fists-in-the-wind profile. Its namesake wide front end, black-wire sissy bar, and available orange-to-yellow fade flames paint scheme might be hits from the bike-builder archives, but the LED stop/turn/tail light combo is new technology that keeps its chopped rear fender clean and uncluttered. The new Wide Glide® model is also priced to be a great value – call it affordable attitude.

Affordable attitude and LED tail lights. Fist in the wind profile.

Get where I'm going here, my brothers?

GJ: In other words, Harley is discovering NOW what the competition has known for over TEN YEARS?? Hardly sounds "innovative" to me.

Harley Davidson: We won't let progress get in the way of tradition.

Damn, I should trademark that and sell it to HD.

New H-D tech innovations:

Back in 1957 H-D was one of very few manufacturers to employ vastly more efficient roller cams. It's only in recent years that Detroit finally capitulated and included them on their pushrod engines. Dry sump oiling is still rare on most engines - though of little practical value on H-D's except to keep the engine mounted lower in the frame.
