BS, the early fuel maps got less fuel economy, but the newer maps ones are pretty much the same as the older bikes in terms of consumption. | ||

I hope so, I was really sad. The last mpg I got was 40 even. Only have 500 miles on though. About when does the bike get broken in and I can expect to see it's normal mpg? | ||

I don't know, they just keep getting better the more you run them. For reference, I had an 09 12X that I borrowed back last spring 300 miles on it when I picked it up, even on winter formulations that contained E10, and riding it in NY in below freezing temps, I was averaging 50mpg. Those same tanks would be 55ish on my 06, so I know once it got broken in it would of matched or exceeded my 06. | ||

I'm hoping so. I am getting high 30s or low 40s on my bike. Granted, it's brand new so I have hope it will get better. I do wonder if my love of RPMs has anything to do with it.... | ||

About 40 is all I am getting with my '06 12X with mixed driving (some of it very aggressive, some of it not). Haven't owned it long enough to determine what "average" riding will yield, yet. Not sure how much it would change if I removed the flogging factor from the equation. | ||

My mpg has always been low compared to the estimates, but I do ride it hard. Also, my bike was last at the dealer for a rocker box leak warranty job back in March. I don't know if they plugged it in back then and did an update, but it hasn't changed much since I've owned it. A few tanks ago registered 44 mpg, and my best ever is 45. I'm usually around 40 every time. I do ride hard and I'm not complaining; the bike runs excellent. I have 12K on the clock. I think my lowest was like 35 mpg last year when it still had the new smell on it. | ||

08 12 with 6k in the clock. Still only get mid 30's. I have the latest reflash also. 08+ just have shaty mpg. No big deal. | ||

Just bought my first Buell, an '09 XB12Ss, and my dealer warned me that mileage would be poor initially (~35 mpg) but should improve steadily until broken in. Only one tank so far and that was 40 mpg. Full break in may take considerably longer than the factory recommended break-in. It took about 25,000 mi. on my Honda S2000. | ||

Early 08 fuel and timing maps have not changed at all. Other knobs in the ECM were turned to fix the issues. | ||

I do something like 145miles for each tank of my MY07 XB12SS. I think I am on the throttle too much. Am I? EDIT: it takes 3.3 gallons each time ... that is 43MPG. (Message edited by radioelasais on November 09, 2009) | ||

Wow! Then I'm not sure about the newer bikes! I ride a bit conservatively and juice when I feel the need and was getting about 50 to 55 mpg's on an 04 with a race kit! It was only about a 3K mile old motor! Does the heavier crank have anything to do with it? | ||

Froggy is the only one seeing 65mpg as "typical" mileage lol... he must ride like a grandma... 40-50mpg depending on how I ride sounds right, and that's pretty good for a 1200cc engine! The ninja 250cc gets 70-80mpg, which is awesome, but how could a 1200cc get almost the same mileage unless you ride SUPER conservatively, on freeway only, and never exceed 4k rpms? Buell themselves advertise 60mpg, and we know advertising figures are always in the best possible conditions, barely using the throttle, with a super skinny rider and wind in the back... but no, Froggy gets 65mpg eassssyyyyyyy  | ||

Actually the Ninja 250 can get well over 100mpg, I know someone that does, and I am not far behind at 85mpg on the Blast.
It's all in your riding style. I also got 18k miles on a front Scorpion Sync, 15k on the rear. Basic changes to your riding can have huge impacts on your fuel economy and tire wear. Oh, and you don't make the front page of killboy driving like Grandma You can get better fuel economy around town on a Buell vs on the Highway, due to the lower wind resistance from the lower speeds. Peek fuel economy based on my unscientific observations is around 2500 RPM. No reason to ride any higher than that other than on the freeway or track.  | ||

Froggy: 2500 RPM? I think my tach starts at 3000 RPM. I figured my mileage is due to a new bike and riding in the 3500 to 4000 RPM range. | ||

Over 7k on the clock and I get 44mpg city, but that's not riding conservatively. If I were easier on the throttle I could do better but hey, gas is cheap. On the highway I regularly get over 70mpg. YMMV, Nels | ||

My coworker and I picked up XB12Ss's in September. We got near identical 50 mpg summer highway miles before break-in. He uses his to commute on a 15-18 minute, 35 mph commute and with our cool temps, wet air, and required gasahol, he is varying between 34 and 40 mpg. Even with the oil cooler blocked off, his oil temp won't reach 150 degrees - it's probably just coming off the enrichment circuit by the time he finishes his ride. | ||

LOL, you can't trust Froggy on mpg numbers, he's a frikkin' 2-wheeled hypermiler. He's like a gas ninja, trained in the secret arts. I've always gotten around 52 mpg on my '06 Ss. But then, I didn't keep track of it during break in. I also tend to run between 2500 and 3200 rpms for extended periods. I believe on a 1200, 2500 rpms in 5th is around 55mph. ~SM | ||

On my '07 XB12S I get 40-44mpg in city driving with regular bursts of the throttle. Highway riding ~75mph 47.6mpg Highway riding ~60mph 50.2mpg All of the above numbers are per Fuelly.com Clearly, the bike is the most efficient at ~60mph. | ||
