I am trying to decide whether or not to take my 12S with me to a track day at Jennings. I would love to take it out on the track, but have heard before that Jennings can be strict on the decibel max. Has anyone on here rode at Jennings with a Spec-ops, Drummer, or equivalent noise producing exhaust? no issues?

Dont know anything about Jennings but what is their policy? Strict Db limit? Stock only?

I know at Laguna Seca, my local track, except for racing (and a VERY rare unrestricted day if a race is canceled and the day was already waived) you cannot ride a bike with any aftermarket exhaust essentially. A race bike here or there will get by with a noise baffle but I have heard that a Yamaha R6 with a stock exhaust will trip the Db limit in one spot of the track... STOCK exhaust.

That's pretty retarded. I can't confirm of deny that, but it's backwards.

You are on a freakin race track for cripes sake. That's like going to a drag strip and imposing limits on db there.

Why offer services and turn around and restrict your customer base?

MOST tracks will give you a 2-lap test... but you gotta realize that if you've paid for a track day, you CAN'T get a refund.

Loud pipes might save lives but they can keep you OFF of some race tracks.

I rode there with Southern Track Days/Florida Sportbikers track day and there was no problem.
I have a XB9S with a Spec OPS pipe

Geforce... as much as I agree with you its just the world we live in...

It does seem to only be a problem at GP tracks though, AKA, the big tracks.

Most smaller tracks, like the AFM (CA's state racing league) Thunderhill track where I went couldn't care less.

Laguna Seca or Sears Point, where the AMA and MotoGP hit, are a bit stricter (don't know about Sears but I know Keigwins wont let you at a Laguna event without an OEM exhaust on any bike and as I said even then some bikes on some parts of the track must hold back to stay legal).

I have rode there with a race pipe, a number of guys running Spec. ops and drummers etc.

Just go and have fun.

This is the first year in 4 that I have not made it to jennings....

Thanks guys! I did read up a little on the Jennings GP discussion board, enough to find out that they're pretty strict on the noise. I'll be taking my little ninja 250 to get some track time on it. I'm getting it ready for WERA ESS next season, fun little bike! But I would love to turn some laps on the Buell, and have a back up in case the 250 is too slow for the track pace.

Laguna is especially brutal. Move the sound station so nobody knows where it will be so they could short-shift.

They also charge $1000 PER LAP after a black flag is ignored for sound. They only have 7 events a year where they're allowed sound waivers. MotoGP is one of them.

I have run a Buell with Spec Ops, Buell race and XBRR style exhausts at Jennings. You will not have any problems.

Geforce, I'm sure it's not the track that wants to restrict the noise. Pretty much all localities have noise ordinances. Most exempt race tracks. Maybe their government agency has been leaning on them and they just can't have all the noise all the time or they'll be shut down.

I could go into a whole rant about people who build a new house next to a noisy place like a powerplant, rock quarry, racetrack or air force base that's been there for decades, then bitch and complain about the noise. . . but I won't.

We used to get our butts chewed for shaking walls and rattling windows on a 200 pound limit demo range...

It was over 200 pounds. Didn't have a choice.

I get the reasons... the common sense just isn't there. It's frustrating. Kinda like arguing with a fence post.

Jeffro, Really, TAKE YOUR BUELL! You WILL NOT HAVE ISSUES. I have done two track days a year there for the past four years and NEVER had a problem.

I rode a Drummer equipped 1125R that was LOUD AS HELL and nobody complained.

Jennings is in the middle of f'n nowhere, the few houses around are real farmhouses.

I'll be taking it, just wish I had the cash to put some better tires on. I'll be running with Stradas, and definitely not pushing it because of that, anybody have any experience with those on the track? They felt pretty good through the Mtns, so I'm really hoping they'll work for a few laps around the track.

Anybody here going to Jennings for Dec. 5,6? Ed Bargy will be at Tally that same weekend.

You should be okay, drop the tire pressures down a bit.

30 front 28 rear is what I ran my BT-016's at, but they are much more sport oriented then yours. Just talk to a tire guy at the track about what he recommends.

Stradas will grip, but not like a sport, or track tire.

Just be smooth.

Again, you will not have a problem. I have never seen Jennings be strick about noise levels.

Jennings has on-site tire services providing Michelin tires.

On your stradas, you may want to run street PSI, or 1 or 2 PSI lower. They weren't designed to run at race tire PSI. Google Pirelli. They have a forum with some good info on their tires. Also I believe Smoke (Tim) has run stradas at Jennings.

FYI, I ran Conti Road Attacks (sport touring tire) to mid 1:30s at Jennings with no issue. I unknowningly ran them at higher than street PSI.

My next day at Jennings will be Nov 15 (private day, sold out but u can still spectate if you like). Then Dec 26 & 27 (another private day, lots of Buells going to be there and spots still open).

Conti's like high pressure even at the track.
I didn't find this out until after my track day.
I kept wondering why decreasing my pressure wasn't helping.
