I am driving myself crazy trying to decide whether or not to buy the XB12Scg. I was wondering if anyone has taken this bike on long drives? How is it on a casual ride How did you feel after a long ride? Did it wipe you out physically? Any advice would be appreciated. I have until tomorrow to buy or get my deposit back. |

just buy. i've ridden my Scg for eight hours a couple of times, and it's fine. toward the end, my butt goes numb and i'm ready to be done, but i think a Select seat would be all it would take to make it an all-day bike. |

Seat selection makes a big difference. Handle bar selection also. You will be glad when the fuel light comes on. I have no major complaints but I bought it for local rides and the twistys. |

Buy it. Im 5'7 AND i HAVE A 09 SCG, TOOK IT ON A 2300KM TRIP THIS PAST SUMMER AND IT'S AWESOME. I changed the seat to a Buell select seat which is very comfy for the long trips, just they have a problem with the vinyl lifting. See other post in knowledge vault. Any other questions just ask. I now have 12000km on the bike. |

I have one too, for 3K miles now and although I love it I would not take this bike for long trip... - The tank would last about 130 miles or so. I'm a bit annoyed already for the frequent fuel stops. - The seat yes, is the thinnest among them, you can of course get different seat but I guess you want it because it's low. - It's a naked bike so it's rough above 90mph or so. You can get the R version then add something like Zero Gravity windscreen to help with the wind. - If you're less than 150lb or more than 200lb this bike would be hard to adjust the suspension. The forks are actually shorter than the others, and not simply mounted lower at the triple tree. I'm 140lb so I would need to set the suspension softer but I can't, the forks bottom out too soon if you set them too soft. So it's bouncing me around a bit. - It has the shortest wheelbase around so it's great in the twisties but a bit twitchy on the highway. You can add GPR steering stabilizer or tighten up the neck bearing a bit. Just something I noticed. For me though, no regret. Christopher |

What about the heat where your knees hug the frame? I heard the bike can get pretty hot, any mods to combat this? |

What? You don't like the heat between you legs? Christopher |

I've ridden 250-300 mile days on my Scg. My only complaint was the seat, but even then it wasn't unbearable. It did convince me to order a Select Seat though. |

Heat is not a big issue. If you put the RSS on from the 2010 ULY then all heat is gone. |

i have ridden about 7500 miles this year alone on my 07 Scg, now at 16500. the only change from stock is a taller zero gravity screen, and a hyperpro combi spring kit. the front spring change made a huge difference in reducing the dive when braking and also helped the handling a great deal. i made 2 trips this year to Buell meets, one in june when i covered 2000 miles in 12 days, (400 miles in one day, then september a 2500 mile , 10 day trip, including a 640 mile day to get home from scotland. average mpg was about 55 per uk gallon (45 us) on motorways, a bit less in the twisties, best i got was 65 when cruising back from ullapool on some back roads, but who cares when having fun. the only other addition was a ventura rack as seat space with all the gear on was a bit tight (i was camping most of the time) the Scg handled the weight fine as the torque of the motor meant it barely noticed the extra weight. and yes very comfy, even more than my bmw f800s which im selling as its boring |

I have no problem on my scg on long trips. As much as people complain about the low fuel capacity my fuel light always comes on right before I need to stretch my legs so it is actually timed pretty good for me. Buy it now before it's gone! |

I've ridden my 12s from Nashville, TN to Auburn, AL and then to Atlanta, GA and back to Nashville with no problem. I assume the scg isn't much different. Buy one and enjoy. |

I ride an S with a low seat, so the pegs/seat/bars relationship is the same as an scg...one tank rides are fine....after that I wish I was back on my old Corbin seat that was on my Blast. But the stock seat is pretty good for stock...I would want something different if I was doing an IronButt...LOL... |

I LOVE my Scg on long rides. Longest I've even been on it without stopping was about 3 hours, or a full tank of gas, on the stock seat. Your butt might get a little sore but it's not bad. Or you can buy a softer seat for long rides. If you're worried about heat, don't be. Try riding an R1 and then tell me about heat! |

I would get this spasm of the right hand so the 3 something gallon tank is not enough fuel for me. Christopher |

I love my Scg for long trips, and I highly recommend the Select seat. Wrist gets a little sore, but that would happen on any bike without cruise. After about 2 hours, my bike and I are both ready for a fuel stop. Heat is a non issue, maybe for real hot days, but a RSS would take care of that. |

I have an Scg with 22K miles on it. I did have the seat reupholstered with a softer foam in it. I've ridden 300 miles and no problems. Best of luck in getting one. It's a hoot to ride. |

My wife bought her Scg before she sold her Sportster she loved it so much. Since then she has ridden it back and forth to Austin, Tx a couple times. She doesn't get fatigued anywhere on her body. It only gets warm if it is warm outside and you are standing still, but any bike will do that. She is 5'2" and she constantly gets comments that the bike fits her perfectly. It is a "truly superb motorcycle".

Mine has the select seat and 1" handlebar risers, and is cake to ride all day long. The ventura rack is quite helpful too for the long hauls. The biggest downside is your locked into a seating position. It's comfortable for sure... but after hours, it's nice to be able to move around a little. I have the RSS also so the heat is never noticeably as long as I'm moving. Just buy the bike, you'll LOVE it! LONG HAUL MODE:

I commute 80 mi round trip to work each day, I'm an ER (emergency room) nurse and work 12+ hours on my feet and I'm 43 years old - I LOVE my XB12Scg! I've also taken it on longer rides and still love it. Take it to the track and STILL love it! I'm short 5'4" 125 lbs. don't know if this makes any difference. Good luck and good buying! Alisha |
