Anybody used these? What else have you used? What do you ride (regular XB or a Long like myself)? What did you think?

I have used the OEM Pirelli's and am currently running a set of Pilot Road 2's. I want to try something new.

The Road 2's are nice, they grip fine and turn in is sharp but the profile is a bit twitchy unless I drop the air pressure down a bit in the front. Also I dont get much feel out of them.

Hence, I want to switch to a sport tire.

I was pretty set on the Pirelli Diablo Rosso but some guys are trying to convince me the BT-016 is the way to go. The Rosso gets good mileage, single compound (grip everywhere), fast warm up and good turn in.

The BT-016 has 3 rubber compounds in the rear and 2 up front, seems like a good setup and I have heard some people get good mileage out of them. What worries me is seeing my buddies, he gets flat spots and doesnt even commute often. Maybe he just has the air pressure to low, who knows.

Also I have heard some firebolt rider raving about them over the Rosso's. Said he thought the Rosso's were the best tire ever and then tried the 16's and found them to be that much better... but the firebolt has a shorter wheelbase then the Ss so that could be part of that.

Anyways, the 16's are cheaper then the Rosso's and supposed to be even stickier. Should I try them out?

I put a pair of 16's on by firebolt a few months ago .The only bad thing I can say about them is they take awhile to warm up , otherwise I will buy another set in a heartbeat. The main reason I bought them was because my friend with a Hayabusa had just switched from the Rosso's to the 16 and he said he could not believe how much faster his bike could change direction with the 16 vs the rosso. I did have the 16's step out a few times the last time I was at the gap but I was having a REALLY GOOD DAY
I liked them better than the corsaIII I have now and the price is hard to beat.

I have about 1000 Miles on a set. I like them a lot, not sure how they are gong to wear. Sides of the front seem to wear pretty fast giving it a tapperd profile. Rear is even. I am on a 190 rear (06 Ss) with no issues. I run 32 PSI hot.

I'm still a Corsa III fan, but these are hard to beat at the price.

I have a set sitting in the garage..

Did a lot of research, from what I've read they are very comparable to CIII's in performance...


For a 3-5K tire

Being about a hundred dollars cheaper than my Corsa III's it was hard to pass up..

Conti Road Attacks: can only compare them to the Dunlops qualifiers. Dunlops seemed to be skating and never inspired confidence. I am really impressed with the RA. Wore out the first rear in 6500 kilometers but it was fun and sticky up to the threads showing. Bought a new one, front still had a lot of meat left on it. Very little chicken strip left either tire.

Price seems close to the BT-016.

Rick, what about them did you like more then the Corsa's?

People seem to be raving about the Rosso's and the 16's alike. This is a really tough decision.

Also I met a guy today selling some BT-002's (RS?... its the more street oriented version) which is a step up from the 16's, single compound track tire but still great tire and for $255 a set.

I think you can get 16's for not much over $200 a set though, but then I'd have to remove my wheels (he said $305's plus tax for the full deal, I drop bike off and ride away without doing anything).

what about them did you like more then the Corsa's?
They just felt better on turn in , not saying the corsa is bad I just liked the 16 better. the 16 still feels like a new basket ball after 2000 miles. The 002 are sticky tires too, one of the people I ride with has a hot gsxr1000 and he had problems getting it to stay hooked up until he got the 002. Don"t expect many miles though.For the money bridgestone is hard to beat

Even the 'sport touring' BT021s stick really well for the amount of mileage I expect out of them. I currently have about 3K on these...

I have heard the 21's are pretty good but I am not SUPER stoked with the grip on the Pilot Road 2's (Michelins version) plus given how I ride 90 percent of the time in the twisties, I think I should be riding a stickier tire.

I have decided to leave the Pirelli's for another time.

Now its either the BT-016 or the BT-002RS. I met a shop owner the other day who was running them and said he is selling them for $255 a set and only $50's to install (wheel removal and all). Not bad, would be about $100's less then I spent to have the Michelins mounted.

The BT-002 Pro is a racing tire, the RS is the street version which has no options for compounds, single in the back, dual in the front and has a more flexible carcass to allow faster warm up (for the street).

Much more track oriented then the BT-016's but I may be doing a track day soon and might plan to install them just a weekend or two (300-400 street miles) before the track day.

Or I might just burn them on the street : ).

I thought the PR2's were the best thing since sliced bread a couple months ago.....

I don't have any problems with the PR2's, they stick just fine on my SS and feel very stable.
Also, if you think the PR2's are twitchy, you are going to hate any aggressive sport tire like the 002rs, 016, etc because the profile is more of an egg shaped rather than round like the PR2's to help turn in and contact area at full lean.

You might want to try adjusting tire pressure and/or suspension settings and have better results..

The twitchy feeling I talked about was my first ride or two after not riding for 2 weeks. I dont have that problem anymore, but I still feel like I could use more grip and still think the tires are very numb.

Yeah they were a huge improvement over the OEM's : ). And they were the best thing since sliced bread when I first got them. But in those 4,000-5,000 miles my riding has improved (cornering ability) more so then it ever has in the 16-17K miles I have been riding, which makes me notice things I didnt before.

All in all they were good tires, just a little numb (dont inspire as much confidence now that I am riding harder) and for the way I ride (90 percent of my riding in the twisties) a sport tire is the way to go I believe.

And Ill find out on Tuesday if I really do like the sport tires more ; ). Getting BT-016's installed.

Also one thing the PR2's would do, I'd have them leaned over and they would almost seem to suddenly drop out on me, the lean angle would increase. Almost felt like a small slide. Yes an egg shaped (or triangular shaped) tire will be more twitchy when upright, which I like, but once leaned over its on a nice flat surface and not a smaller edge like on a round tire, so I'd imagine at lean its even more settled then a really round tire.

I think I'll like the quick steering of the 16's, middle range, not to much input needed but its not as extreme as a Michelin sport tire. If I find that I like something more stable, Ill probably go the Pirelli route. Their tires seem to have a more linear turn in with a rounder tire profile.

Jraice, let me know how you like the 16's compared to the pr2's . I have several friends running the pr2's that keep telling me to switch over because they handle as good as a sport tire and get long life. Problem is when the road gets really twisty they disappear in the rear view mirror.be careful the 16' did seem to take a longer time to break in before they felt good and they always take awhile to warm up.

I have a thousand miles on my PR2's.

They look like new.

I feel the bike is handling better in the twisties than ever.

As Terry Gallatin, Danny Eslick's crew chief observed this weekend, there are quite a few variables that constitute good handling, not the least of which is the style of the rider.

I think one of the reasons I like my PR2's so much is that I may have made a few adjustments to my riding style as well as to my suspension.

If I were looking at a new set of "sticky buns" it would only be because I was heading to the track.

If I were going to buy some, I would probably select the Dunlop Q2's. They are a brand new design, and have gotten rave reviews both here and in Europe.
