im waiting for the last part to come in till i get the bike together, the second gear dogs didnt look good.. im waiting because we accidentally ordered from the 06 book instead of the 05 book, meaning we had originally ordered the 06 mainshaft 1st gear instead of the 05 mainshaft 2nd gear.... bla bla bla.... to the rust I've honed the cylinders about last week and now looking at them, they are beginning to show some rust.. umm wtf, what do i do? put them IN and not worry about the surface rust, as because the engine will take care of the rust once its running with the oil and friction and stuff. or do something about it...?  | ||

I would deffinately do something about it. What that something is, im not really sure. All I know is that rust inside the engine, can never be good. | ||

You could put a thin coat of engine oil on the cylinder walls by wiping them down with a rag. Keith | ||

Always coat everything with an oil and put some oil soaked rags over the parts until it is all put together and sealed back up, that way the parts don't have a chance to rust. If it were me, I would rehone the cylinders, doesn't take very long, so why not. | ||

Either rag and engine oil or rag and assembly lube. Engine oil is easier to find, assembly lube stays put better though. | ||

After applying the oil I'd wrap them in plastic wrap to keep them covered. | ||

I have the cylinder heads off my Chevy right now, waiting for a few things before I put them back on. A coat of WD40 is keeping everything just how I like it. Just spray it on thick, and put some plastic bags over it. Not much help now that they've already started to show surface rust. Honestly, you'll probably be ok.
