Hey everybody I just picked up my new 9s on monday, nice day in the 60s and as luck would have it yesterday and today have been around thirty and snowing. Well i went out the the garage to show off the bike to a friend and when i went to start it, it would not idle unless i held the throttle on a little bit, has anybody else had a problem like this, or is it just the way the ecm is programed that it doesn't like the cold very much.

I've only had mine die while warming up once and it was about 35... '04 XB12R. It died about five seconds after I started it and after I started it again it ran fine and warmed up nicely...

Was it idling OK before? Not too low? It should idle around 1050RPMs. You can adjust that with an allen wrench (the adjustment screw is behind the air intake scoop).

I've never had mine quit on me once it started unless the TPS was way out of whack, but if you rode it fine the past two days then that's probably not it.

Same thing was happening to me Stainless and just today I realized my bike was idling around 850 to 900 rpms so I raised it to the suggested speed of 1050 and it starts right up(30 degrees today) Also has better throttle responce & less backfiring w/my new exhaust.

Come to think of it, it was idleing a little low the night i picked it up, ive only had the chance to ride it from the dealer to work, and from work home, then the snow hit grumble grumble, still not sure how it can go from 60 and sun shining one day to 30 and snowing for 2 days straight, well anyway, ill try adjusting the idle and ill let everyone know what happens, thanx for the advice

On cold days, my XB9R does that occasionally. It will start up just fine, and idle properly for a few seconds. Then it seems to cycle to a point where the RPMs dip just slightly. At that point, sometimes it quits, other times it recovers and keeps going. I have only noticed this happening on really cold mornings. Because of my present circumstances, my bike stays outside under a car port. As far as I can tell, it idles @ 1050 RPMs - at least the tach hovers around the 1K mark.

I may be crazy, but I swear my bike idles better at a slight lean on the kickstand when first starting it in the mornings - as opposed to sitting on the bike and keeping it upright. Weird...

Yea mine did something like what you are describing after i adjusted the idle up, before i played with the idle, it would barely even start without me feathering the throttle, let alone idle without me holding it between 1500 and 2000
