I replaced my belt about 6 weeks ago. After that I noticed an 'unwinding' wrrrrrrrrrrrr sound as a come to a stop. Seems to do it when its in gear and in neutral. Whens it really slows (just before it stops) you feel a slight vibration through the pegs. I think it may be the belt, as the rubbing sensation is constant, but rhythmic, as if one part of the belt is rubbing or something. I don't think Ive done the full 1000 miles since the installation of the new belt so it may still be a bit tight.

Anyone experienced any similar things after installing a new belt?

Oh no! Ur belts too tight! Loosen the tensioner quick! Lol. I keed. Check the obvious stuff first. Is the inside of the belt rubbing either pully? Did you put anti-seize on the axle? I'm hoping you followed the install directions to the word. Tighten the axle. Torq to 21-27ft-lbs. Back off 2 turns. Retighten to 48-52ft-lbs. Tighten pinch nut to 40-45ft-lbs. And if you took off the pully, tighten nuts to 33-35ft-lbs. (And just to make sure you didn't do it, never tighten rear axle with swingarm brace not installed) And swingarm brace install says to tighten those bolts to 25-27ft-lbs. Hope this helps. (oh. This is for an 09 firebolt. I'm sure it would be the same for other years or close. But your 05 swingarm brace might be different.)

I cant say that i followed the manual to the word exactly. I find the manual tends to assume you are going to disassemble the entire bike. I didnt remove the idler pulley assembly. I have never found this necessary when removing the rear wheel either. The belt seems to just slide on to the rear sprocket.

Ive had the wheel off since the rubbing began to check the bearings.

Now I notice some slight fraying on the belt where the white cords are exposed. I cant see where it would be rubbing anywhere other than the side wall lip on either of the sprockets. If this is the case, I cant see how it can be helped, the sprockets are only as wide as the belt itself. What is there to adjust?

Anyone else have NEW BELT trouble?
