Do any of you use the 9 as a daily driver? If I were to get one it would be my primary transportation and I would like to be sure that it could handle the weather and all. With it being the little brother to the Uly I expect that there wouldn't be a problem. I just don't want to make a big $ mistake. I use my Triumph Sprint as a daily driver now and I really appreciate the fact that it has been quite reliable....and the next bike has to be too. I have been a Buell fan for a long time and am somewhat hesitant to take the plunge, but I am really itching to do so.

I do, rain or shine. I've put 17k on it in the past year; closing in on 40k total miles. No significant problems, a few minor annoyances but way better than any other bike I've owned.

I ride my 06 XB12 as a daily driver year round including in NY's harsh winters. For a while I didn't even have a car.

I ride my xb9 nearly everyday 30 miles round trip with traffic.

It is comfortable and everyone looks at it.

If you ride an XB9S with a chopped tail in the rain you will end up with rain, mud, ect splattered ALL over your back.
Otherwise the bike is great, I ride mine whenever the sun is shining.
I don't mind getting caught in the rain as long as it's on the way home

My 9R is the only mode of transportation that I currently have. I love it, and I have had no problems... even in the AZ desert heat.
Now I clean and inspect the bike religiously, but that is my just loving the bike and making sure the it is immaculate!

I use my xb12s as one. If you go with the lightning the posture is really comfy. I have had no real problems with mine except running over a couple of nails. My fault, not the bikes.

I ride my XB9SX year round here on the oregon coast. We get some pretty harsh rain and winds at time. It's an adrenaline rush to ride in 60-80 mph winds. I have had no problems with my bike either.

My '9R is my primary transportation. I ride most of the year here in Minnesota in all kinds of weather. My Diablo Stradas are great in the rain.

While not a "9", I've been driving my 12R everyday since I bought it (used), about two months ago.
84 miles a day.

I ride a 9R year round, but i live in ga so our winters are sometimes bareable, (lowest in mid teens) and sometimes it feels like the summers are unbareable (highest around 100-105) Mines pretty reliable, after 20 thousand miles, and i ride the mess out of it.

Well, test rode a XB9 again today.....unfortunately again I wasn't too impressed. It did ride pretty good. It did have plenty of power. It was a bit.....er, raw. Which I guess I just don't care too much for the XBs...although I really really want to. I didn't like the Ducati Hypermotard either....

Yep, or just put training wheels on the xb.......no, no, no that would probobly still be to "RAW" for ya! Stick with a scooter or a BMW. My dad bought one of those, for a 1200, it was tame for the lame- whaah whaah whaah

Different strokes for different folks. What about the 12 or the 1125? The 12 is even more raw and lumpy feeling, it might just be the overload you need, or the 1125 which is the total opposite.

Just being funny. Didn't mean to hurt any feelings. I spoke with my dad and he has the BMW K1200rs. It's pretty cheap, powerfull and as far from "raw" as you can get. A good all around sport/touring bike.
Just saying- if the xb is too much, maybe a different bike is the way to go.
Not knowing anything about the 1125, but staying in the Buell family, that should be your first option. New=expensive.

Keep the sprint....

I'm guessing you have bags? XB soft bags are way small compared to the sprints.....

Try a ULY out... Definetly would buy used

Good Luck...

Alii,
I currently ride a XB9r. Love it on the daily but have you thought about a BMW GS 650? That was my stepping stone bike to Buell. 1100R maybe?
Before you give up on the Buell... I have owned my XB9r since '05 and still to this day I go into the garage and just look at it. It's loud, raw, has plenty of carbon on it, and it's the funniest bike I have ever owned in my 30 years of riding.
Remember, all of us Buell, KTM, Moto G, Duck, and BMW rides have to stick together... us agaist them.
-Chad

I don't know how anyone liked the 9, notice how there is only 1 bike still made with the 9? Its because they have a ton of pistons in a box to use up, once they are gone then they are done forever : D

Froggy you're out of your mind I love my xb9 and it keeps up just fine with my friends 12. Quit hatting on the size of the engine its lighter revs higher and has pretty much the same quarter mile time as the 12s

Woopdee do, you got 300rpm on me, I got 20 more HP at the wheel, like 15 more torque, and 30mpg more. My motor dosen't need short gearing to compensate for my lack of balls : D

I demoed a CityX last fall, I got off and made sure there indeed was two cylinders, I thought I got on the Blast by accident : )

Typical New Yorker always concerned about size. 1 you have 11 more hp and 10 more torque 06 xb12 vs 08 xb9. Really it doesn't matter they're both Buells and that's all that should matter.

Actually - comparing new bikes - the 9 has it over the 12Ss in several areas - since all the S type 12 XBs are now stretched, the 9 is now better handling than the rest of the S styles due to having/retaining the same dimensions as the R bikes. I could list a few other facts as well, however, this one is good enough for me.

Hey Ez,

Are you adding an xb9 to your stable? Have you decided that you don't need one bike per cylinder? JK.
