Ok, I've been puting my bike together for the last three days. It's a xb9 with a 12 motor. The 9 motor blew up and I found a wrecked 06 xb12 for parts, the 12 had 10k a race muffler, race ecm, and k&n.
I parted out the 12 and kept what I wanted. The motor is in the bike and I'm about ready to start it. now this is the problem. I've comfirmed that the ecm that I got from the 12 bike is a xb9 race ecm. Why would someone put that in a 12? Would it work? (it must have) is it possible to flash a 9 ecm to 12 specs? Should I just put it in? please help I'd like to finally ride my bike again..

Before you could alter the rev limit with ECMSpy the 12 was locked in to a significantly lower rev limit than the 9. Friends mused about fitting a 9 ECM and tuning it with Direct Link for the 12. I think that while the two ECMs have some different parameters, and while I'm no expert, I could see that working.

I believe this is possible as well, mainly for the raised rev limit on the xb9, +1 petebueller.

I have no experience doing this or have any clue, I imagine you just start on an xb9 ecm on directlink or ecmspy, and just go from there.

Raise the rev limit of the 12 and POW! One cooked motor. If you have ever red lined your 12 or more on accident when accel. quickly, you will see that the motor is not really capable of higher revs due to the piston travel. The strokes are way too long. Just my thoughts.

I agree Zoedogg1 that it isn't good for the long stroking motor, and it isn't what I'd be looking to do. I was more thinking about why someone might do it.

wrt your thoughts on hitting the rev limiter, it is exactly why people are looking to increase the limit. What you are noticing is the ECM denying fuel and spark as the bike approaches the limiter. It isn't the engine that is making the uncomfortable resistance.

With DL we could see that some ECMs locked the bike to 95% of the rev limit and others to 90%. There is also the soft limit which is annoying. Now with ECMSpy you can tweak these a bit. If I were into racing mine I would tweak it up to where it should be : )

Anyway. I could see someone trying a 9 ECM to get a higher rev limit. There may be a risk or breaking a rod if it is taken too high, but high ring wear would be the most likely down side IMO.
