Looking to get a used XBR12. Is there much difference from year to year? Most interested in any drivetrain/suspension differences? Like I said, used, so maybe '04-'07.

I know in the later years there were some improvements to the engine in terms of durabililty and oil cooling, not sure when that happened.

Also there was a switch somewhere in your years I believe to a better smoother shifting transmission.

Dont know about suspension but I believe it was updated at some point.

04 was the first year XB12

05 Different forks? (Switched from 41mm to 43mm), A few minor changes

06 New smoother transmission, air intake relocated, larger capacity frame, new swingarm design. A few more minor changes

07 New higher flow airbox. More minor changes.

08 Significant changes to the motor, whole press release for that. more minor tweaks.

09 Everything is blacked out, new stronger belt, more minor changes.

What are the specifics to the stronger belt in 09? Havent heard about that...

Imo you should buy new just for the blacked out look ; ).

Oh and I know it doesnt matter as you are not looking into 09's but they also got the new brakes (ZTL2?) from the 1125R, 8 piston I believe...

Yep thats right ZTL2 on the 09 XB12SS and SCG. XB9 and Uly ppl have to suffer : )

New on Buell Streetfighters for 2009
Blacked-Out Component Styling – To reinforce the aggressive styling of the Buell Streetfighter line, new black finishes are applied to the frame, swingarm, engine, fork tubes, triple clamps, brake calipers and other components.

ZTL2 Front Brake – XB Lightning models powered by the 1203 Thunderstorm engine are now equipped with the ZTL2 front brake. The eight-piston caliper design offers a larger pad surface, optimizes heat-dissipation capability and allows even pressure distribution over each of the four pads in the caliper. A single 375 mm stainless steel rotor mounted directly to the wheel rim produces outstanding stopping power, weighs less than a dual-disc system, and permits the use of a very lightweight front wheel that helps reduce steering inertia and unsprung weight.

Improved Drive Belt – A new Veyance Hibrex drive belt with Flexten Plus technology, based on the belt developed for the Buell 1125R, is stronger and more durable than the previous drive belt.

The 2008 Ss suspension got changed from all the previous Ss models. It now uses the discontinued TT suspension, which is rumored to be the best all round of any model.

What makes the TT suspension better? I never really understood that.... It has more travel but other than that, what else?

Dunno, I've never ridden one. But there were a bunch of posts when it first came out, and those that did ride it just RAVED about it. I think Danger Dave was one. Might ask him.

And this is one of the reasons I am thinking I should get the XB12Ss over the XB12Scg!

I am 5'10" so either would be fine, probably do a city x seat on the SCG to get it a little higher, or a lower seat on the Ss to get it a light lower so in the end same height for me...

Ss has better suspension from what you guys are saying but is the difference enough to give up that sweet SCG short wheelbase : )

Since you are obsessing over the short wheelbase, take a look at one of these:

Want to sell me your suspension then? : )

Have you at least set it up properly? I demoed the STT, best suspension ever. I have been thinking of getting it for my 06 SS.

yes yes its set up per the book. the question is: what makes it so much better that the lowly pre-09 ss suspension, besides the extra travel?

nope. not for sell.

IMO the difference in road feel between the various suspension offerings is negligible. All the XB's handle very well.

Put some Ohlins on it fore and aft. Now you're talking. It'll only set you back like $2500.

The TT suspension is different than any of the other Buells. The forks in particular are
a different model with different internals that make all of the difference in the world.

Froggy, very funny.

One thing I'ed like to chime in about is the 03-05 hand made swing arms, and as far as better trans post 05, not true. Maybe brand new, but not after break in.

The xb12stt I rode suspension was awesome. Properly set up it took the square edged impacts like potholes, 1-2 inch bumps much better than the other xb's. It did not wallow as much as the Ulysses at stop lights or on hard acceleration. Maybe it is the dirt bike rider in me - but I noticed. I do agree the best suspension of the Buell line.
