Did all the fueling gremlins finally get taken care of? I haven't noticed any complaints lately about the crummy gas mileage and whatnot for the 2008+ models. ~SM | ||

I haven't rode mine in over three months, due to my northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin location. I was only getting 38-39 mpg in early November. The stumble was still there, but only right after warm-up. After the first launch it was fine. In the summer, the stumble happened at very random times. It was unpredictable and almost caused me to dump the bike on more than one occasion. This did seem to happen mostly during sharp right turns at a stop sign or light. I haven't done the breather mod yet. It is on my to-do list this spring. I have to have thumb surgery on my throttle hand, so I won't be riding for a little while. I might as well do the mods and take off the warning stickers. | ||

Of the 1500 miles I put on my '09 last year, it seemed much smoother then my '08. Also, a couple weeks ago when the weather was in the 50s, it started right up. My '08 would have needed a few tries. | ||

...no low rpm surging? Heck, mine surges up to 3500 rpm. If blip the throttle for a downshift, sometimes it'll cough through the intake, sometime enough to stall. Yes, it's warmed up. Sometimes I'll get a freakish 42mpg. | ||

2k miles on my 09SS avg 45mpg no coughing, surging or stumbling. I have noticed that if I can find a gas station that doesn't have 10% ethanol added to their gas I will get better mileage and the bike seems to run better. Maybe it's just my imagination. | ||

08 XB12R 1200 miles w/old econo-Drummer from my now traded 06 Uly - consistent 45mpg mostly commuting to work (combo of freeway/surface streets). And it's a lot smoother than the Uly was from idle to redline (no coughing, sputtering, stalling, etc.). | ||

11,250 miles on my '08 XT, and it's still surging and sputtering. but the factory says, "that's normal". I've lost all faith in the company, due to this piss-poor response to the issue. | ||

I think they're just telling you the truth. That the XBs have a tendency to surge and sputter if ridden <2.5k Thats why I try to keep it at >5k rpms at all times  (Message edited by wavex on February 27, 2009) | ||

Ecmspy took care of everything but the MPG on my 08. I should note, I don't know what it is doing below 3000 RPM as I just don't run my bike in that low of an RPM range... | ||

Bart, Download ECMspy2 from xopti's site, and the VCP driver software Get yourself a cable...they are relatively inexpensive Hook the bike up to ecmspy, and have a bit of a look around at it... then ask xopti to sort it out for ya Easy as that...but does take a little time, as Xopti has to manually sort out the eeprom sheets. | ||

You can use ECM Spy on 08 but you have to manually enter the hex values. This is why you need to contact Xopti to help with the data or XB9. Its not all done in one program but still doable with a little extra effort. | ||

Nobuell, Mine is a may 08 build...probly one of the last 08's, and it worked good...got rid of the bottom ned hesitation, and smoothed out the rest a little. Xopti actually changes the CPU programm sort of. It's hard to explain (if you don't know what you're talkin about!). His results are worth it... | ||

Thanks guys, I traded in my '05 city-X for this XT. It ran flawlessly at ALL rpms, and never had any problems in 26,000 miles. I have ECMcpy, and have poked around the XT's ECM, but didn't know about changing the Hex values to modify your maps. I will do some experimenting next weekend to see if I can resolve any of my surging issues. Thanks again! | ||

I had gotten used to how my stock '08 ran, accepted it, and then learned how to work around it, so stopped complaining. After all, it still is a great bike, just not a perfect one. Last week I just put on a new Drummer SS muffler and it defiantly runs better, not perfect but better. Not enough miles on it yet to know about any mpg change. Before I was mostly in the low to mid 40 with one or two spikes into the low 50 mpg range. Not really sure what caused the good mpg tank. Going to try different plugs next, thinking that may help a bit also. May eventually try the ECM Spy, but am a bit gun shy of the process, and do not have much fiddle time to work out any complications, so that will be my last option. In the mean time I do continue to enjoy this not 100% perfect bike. | ||

~7300 Miles 08 12R. still 40-42mpg, coughs and sputters on occasion. Just changed out the HD branded plugs for Buell branded plugs, look like a splitfire with platinum electrodes. The bike seems to run a little better, less coughing and sputtering. | ||

sorry, new guy, this only 2nd post. my 07 xb12stt has less than 400miles on it. it stumbles often right off the line, warm or cold.....is this the same as you guys talking about? i also hav2 giv it tiny bit of throttle to start when cold out(20-35degrees).chek engine light also comes on in those cold temps...love the bike, BUT hate that my NEW xb and wife's NEW blast both seem to run like crap. | ||

Blak- Nope, 07 and earlier bikes use a different FI system. You probably just need your TPS reset. Your dealer can do it (it's also part of the 1k mile service) or you can download ECMspy for free, build or buy a cable, and do it yourself. |
