Wow, took my 12R bike for a spin today after doing some maintenance and adding a few trick parts from American Sport Bike and wow what a new machine. Parts include, Lyndall Gold brake pads, CRG shorty levers, Buell traction grips, underseat quick release pins, carbon fiber headlight bezels, Firebolt headlight recall replacement, Blue parking light bulbs, a full oil change and (the best money spent) a nice fresh set of Michelin Pilot Road 2CT. The bike feels so solid. Its amazing how bad tires seem to effect every part of riding, accelerating, cornering and braking. As the tires degrade so slowly you dont realize its happening until you get that fresh set. To top it off, Ive got a Drummer muffler and catch can on the way in the next few weeks. Ill post some pics then. Bring on Spring. | ||

Amen! I got about 12k on my current set of Scorpion Syncs, and I can't take highway ramp turns over 25mph! Fresh rubber is on the way. | ||

I love those pilot 2CT's. They're a bit heavier than the stockers I think, but they sure do turn in nice, and are rock steady. | ||

My Scorpion Sync is at 8000kms and I need a new tyre. I've been reading review and am tossing up between the Conti Road Attack and the Michelin Pilot Road 2 (2CT). Paul_in_japan, what did you have on before the PR2s? | ||

Pete, Ive conducted a Michelin experiment and have concluded that the Road 2CT are the best. The bike came with the dreaded Dunflops, I then tried a) Michelin Pilot Power 2ct- Awesome tire for the first 3000km, sticky super gripp bubble gum rubber and great handling. From 3000 to 5000km they were crapy, bald rear center and triangular profile front. lasted 6 months therefore too expensive. b)Michelin Pilot Sports (now discontinued)- I thought these felt close enough to the Powers but they didnt go the distance either, cords showing in the rear tire before the rest of the tire looked done 5000km on these. c)- Pilot Road 2 CT- Great handling and they wear evenly keeping the tire profile the same over time, This meant the bike handled pretty well right up to the end. Got 9000km out of these over 10 months and have just now bought my second set. They are less grippy than the Powers and I didnt really have the confidence to push them to the edge but i might try that this summer. When they get really hot, (twisties on a hot summer day) they tend to slide (squirm) a bit , but there is plenty of warning that they have reached this limit, no sudden off. | ||

Thanks for that Paul. Michelin Pilot Road 2CT it is. I've found a place that sells them for a decent price in Sydney so will get them this week. Happy riding. | ||

Paul, I would have assumed the Japanese police would be tougher on loud exhausts than in the US. Sounds (!) like not so? | ||

I am going to try the corsa 111 as soon as the money allows I have dunflops now they were free so I aint complaining just not the best tires in my opinion. They are ok in warm temps but I actually turned the edges blue from heat in one hard day of riding and I don't trust the edge that much anymore | ||

Japan is a strange place full of contradictions. I think noise is pretty strict here, thats why Jap Buells have a longer exhaust tip and the interactive intake valve (gotta remove that thing) to cut the noise. 1125 and the CR will not be coming here due to emissions and noise. Still they only check 400cc and over bikes once every two years at the mandatory inspection. So everyone just puts the stock muffler back on and takes off all the other illegal parts (flip up number plate, tiny indicators etc.) get the inspection done and then put it all back. Everyone has a slip on here. My Drummer will be coming with a 3 stage baffle so I hope that will help me if its too noisy. My buddy had a ZX6R with a Hot Bodies under seat exhaust (basically open pipes), sounds like a Moto GP bike. |
