Hello, I am new to this forum, and I am sure some of you will be pleased to know that I am trading in my GSXR600 to get a CityX once the right one presents itself to me. What I would like to know is, has anyone with a CityX, or any Lightning for that matter, been able to safely carry 2? Or are they Lightnings clearly made for 1? I have a lot of female friends who would be distraught if I bought a CityX. oh well. thanks! | ||

It entirely depends on physical size. Power is not an issue, ride ability is not an issue. If you have room on the seat 2 up is not a problem. | ||

The passenger acomodations on an S are similar to a sportbike. That is to say, minimal. There are pegs and a seat of course but no grab bars or anything to keep the passenger on the seat. Kinda nice if you think about! (hold on tight!) | ||

Size matters....if you are 250lbs and ur lady friend is 250lbs...not going to happen...personally I am 150lb and my girl is 100lbs we fit fine | ||

The XB9S has a booty limit. If you're like Sir Mix-a-lot then you need to look into the XB12Ss "Long" | ||

I to am coming from a 600cc (Yamaha R6) and planning on getting a Buell XB. Just curious, why the 9? I am definetly getting a 12, a bit less HP then the R6, double the torque. I have heard its no harder to ride (not to much to handle is what I am saying) then the 9 in the city or twisties and would come in handy on the freeway or any time you want to have a little extra get up and go. But there is nothing wrong with the 9! Just curious what your thinking was. | ||

Well, I fell in love with the Cityx. I really like hand protectors and the headlight cage (small details, I know). I think the main thing, really, is the price. I'm only a freshman in college and I don't want such an expensive bike where I'm going to have to sell it again in 2 years to pay off my student loans. I've seen CityX's for 5000+, which is certainly doable. To be honest, I "rediscovered" Buells literally like last week. I used to work at a Harley dealer in the summers, and I was briefly exposed to them then. Then, I was into my Gixxer-RepsolRR phase, but it isn't what I am into now. I really like the Euro-streetfighter look with the ridiculous tail sections and all that. So, I have spent the past week trying to research Buells and this forum has really helped. I haven't really looked into the 12's too much, my attention has been focused on the beautiful CityX's. But please feel free to convince me to change to the 12, I'm sure it'd be just as much (if not more) fun than the 9. | ||

Repnh, the difference in speed and power of the 9 and 12 is negligble. I have a 12R a coworker has a CityX, from a dead stop if we both hammered down like we were drag racing, he will hold with me until the speeds really get up there. Hell coming out of the hole I think the 9 might be a little faster, until you hit that first gear change that is. Well, at 210lbs I have experienced the back of an XB9S. I had ~30lbs on the guy driving and I really wish I had a picture because it won't happen again. Dropped my bike for service and went ~6miles to get food and kill time til the bike was done. It was the best 6 miles of his life, bought me dinner but never called me back. The bike handled it fine but for any amount of serious 2 up riding I'd get an SS. You can always test ride two up and CityX accessories like hand guards are easy to find used. | ||

Also the flat seat is very annoying, hit the brakes and everything is sliding forward. I am 6'4" and 180lbs, I think my limit is 150lbs for a passenger, anything more and there is just not enough seat to go around. | ||

+1 on the Uly! My wife looked at my Ss and said no way! She's got her Sportster though and I'd rather be solo anyway. I never did like riding 2 up. | ||

I bought my X1 from a guy who said his wife wanted something she could ride on the back of comfortably. A month later I dropped by and he had a brand new GSXR in the garage.  The SX should be fine for giving the lady friends a quick ride. If it's not comfortable enough for them, you could always start hanging out with skinnier girls! | ||

I have a CityX and me and my fiancee ride comfortably and neither of us is small. Heck I had a Blast before and she said that wasn't too uncomfortable. But she said they are night and day. I don't know how far you are going but for any normal riding it is perfectly fine. We have been on longer trips and it was still ok. | ||

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I'm 6'2" 190lbs, and the girls I have been giving rides to are between 4'8" 95lbs and 5'10" 135. If it's the same (more or less) as my GSXR, then there shouldn't be a problem. My longest 2-up was about an hour through NH back roads, and we were both sore after. Thanks again! | ||

Yeah, I was looking through a few guys' profiles and I saw you were from that area. I live in Nashua during the summers (I'm currently living in Waltham, MA for college) and I love riding through Hollis; been that way before? I don't have a Buell yet (hopefully my spring break I'm getting one), but I'm always down for more riding companions. | ||

My 185 lbs on the front and my wifes 115 lbs on the rear and my XB9S does pretty good. But she only rides for very short rides, so no highway time with her. But my girlfriend loves highway ridding...... ( HaHa!! just kidding! ) | ||

My wife didn't mind riding on the back of the 12S if we were just going around town. I bought a S3T so she would be more comfortable. The big thing she wanted was a backrest... now she's got it. As long as she's happy, the world is at peace!  | ||

I suppose you could take passengers on a CityX... Just not on mine, I removed the pegs, and put a Ventura rack over the seating position. And of course added the no fat chicks sticker just to be extra sure If she wants to ride with me, she gets her own. | ||

loved the chat here! I have an 06 Xb12Ss, I'm 210 lbs wifey is 155 lbs and she won't ride for more than an hour and a half without complaining. its more about the peg height and the hip stretch (hell i'm 50 she's 43 what you got is what you get)Hey it isnt all bad, she doesn't complain when i want a long ride on my own or with a crew. I too have an xb12ss: my girlfriend is a little larger than your wifey, and I am 210 also. The bike is actually rated for 380, so we are both pushing the limits LOL. My biggest problem is that the bike has no decent passenger handrails, so EVERY stop she struggles to not slide forward into me, and is never really comfortable on the back. Last season, she never got on the back once, because of this ( a bad thing ?) Dave | ||
