I'm considering trading my Race muffler off to another forum member for an original Drummer. My bike is an '03 9S. I have the K&N filter, and Race ecm.

Question - the drummer is coming off a 12. Would I have to do a TPS reset on mine ?

Thanks in advance !

Slight high-jack, Wolfridge-why would you keep the race pipe? I've been considering doing the same thing.

because they don't make it anylonger. Thats the only real reason.

Both are quality products in my opinion. I have the race pipe and my brother has the Drummer. I may be wrong here, but I think that the Race pipe put out more HP then the Drummer.

My understanding was that the race pipe is better for the top end, Drummer more even power band. Does that sound right?

They don't make it anymore and It makes more ponies.
It has a hole in the power curve around 3500 RPM (+or-) that the Drummer doesn't have.
But pulls harder from 4000 (+or-) to red line... and it sounds pretty good too....

I got both Wolf. Harder from 4k.... no way. Does it produce more HP just by a nudge. Will it make a difference on the track??? No way. And the hole??? The Drummer doesn't have it. The Race Kit muffler is nice but I think the Drummer does everything better as a whole get it a Hole!! lol

Well, maybe I'll just send Kevin my stocker sometime, then I'll have both. My only reasons for wanting the Drummer was to get rid of the hole @ 3500 and I was hoping it might have a deeper tone as well.

it'll do both of those for you. There both great mufflers. Pick one because none of them are going to make that huge of difference.

the drummer wins in my book no hole to always be in. as a sstreet bike your at the rpm most of the time right where the hole is.

get the drummer over the race pipe.

there are different pipes out there who make a more hp pipe just depends on what floats you boat.

Perhaps it's my sport bike background that makes it natural to me to slip the clutch just a bit (just a guess...), but I have the race pipe and feel no hole in the powerband. I love it, but wouldn't mind a bit more sound (Odie, here I come!).

You won't need a TPS reset, but it wouldn't hurt to have a tech plug the bike in and check the numbers. They do that when resetting the TPS. When I went from Stock to Race, the tech reset the air/fuel mix. I'd suggest that no matter what pipe you add.

I'm going from a race pipe to a d&d. Anyone had any experience with this? Thinking about holding on to my race can till i can get it out this spring to see what it is like. I have never heard any other exhaust except for mine and stock.

You may need to speak with Al at American Sportbike. He makes custom maps for the D&D. I've heard that its possible to run the D&D with the stock ECM. I've heard it runs like crap on the race chip with no re-map.

very true the d&d needs a totally remaped ecm more than just fuel. then it works fine.

I ran a D&D on my bike for one year. Had it on the Dyno. It gave me 85 HP. That was crappy. Rocketsprink ran his same year 12 on the same dyno same day. His pushed out 6-7 HP more. I went from a Drummer to a D&D. Then after those number's I went back to the Drummer but the SS. The D&D ran fine but really pooped out on top. The mid range is a kick in the ass compared to any of the mufflers. I just wanted a muffler that did well everywhere through the RPM's. The Drummer excel's there.

I forgot to say though that I ran the D&D with a Race ECM and airbox mod's. It ran great. But it didn't produce good numbers on top is all.

I had a new D&D in my hands and sold it before I even installed. Too much noise, fit has come into question with the chin fairing and not enough on top end. I bought the Buell race kit and was never happier. Although the way the prices are growing on the Buell can, the Drummer is probably the way I'd go now.

I have a track day coming up in early Feb. It will be my first with a Drummer so I'm looking forward to see how it goes.

I'm going with a friend who has a race kit, trouble is that he is a much better rider so there won't be a chance to compare.

I'd Trade a D&D for a race can, Just to try it.

I have owned just about every muffler out there, Funny thing is.....I always go back to my Jardine.....

I never get over the weight of the stock style mufflers....Putting on a 20lb. muffler verses a 5lb muffler.(slight exageration as i dont know the actual weight at this very instant in time)

All the mufflers do fine at the track I am sure.....

I have both, for XB9. The Drummer has the midrange hole too, but not nearly as pronounced. The hole is horrible with the Buell race muffler.

Make sure you're runnin' an XB12 airbox top; it helps a bit with the midrange.

Also, I'd check with Kevin, to make sure that an XB12 Drummer is entirely kosher on an XB9. If I recall correctly, he tunes them slightly differently.

Yesss. Just receive an email from Kevin telling that my drummer ss is ready.
Had to wait 14 months but I'm sure it's worth the wait. Since it's winter here it'll give something to do before summer gets here.
I bought the race muffler from one of my friend but it's for a 9 and mine's a 12. Didn't took the chance of installing it.
