How do you know when it's time to replace the front brake pads on Buell XB12s? |

According to the shop manual, when the pads are worn down to the point that the slots in the surface of the pads disappear. |

Think there are wear groves in the pads. Otherwise I found that my stock ones lasted about 10,000 miles or so. |

I found my pads to be worn to the point of needing replacement when the grooves were still all there but very shallow. Another time I knew it was time for new pads was when I lost a fork seal and the pads were contaminated with fork oil. There is a good deal on pads in the classified section of this site. (if there is any left) They are racing pads, however. |

On the other hand, if you have never fitted Lyndall Gold pads from American Sport Bike, the best time to change pads might just be tomorrow. Pads are a snap to change, you don't even need to remove the wheel, if I recall correctly, haven't done it in a while. The Lyndall pads not only have a great stopping action, but they do not leave the kind of deposits that the stock pads do. Those deposits often lead to pulsating or juttering brakes. |

How much do the Lyndall Gold cost compared to the stock? I might need a change they keep telling me at the dealer and I have 25k+ on them. Maybe I need to ride it harder. |

Lyndals are about the same price as Buell pads. |
