Over the winer I plan on getting either a race ECM or my ECM retuned. I like the whole idea of ECMspy but honestly I just don't understand it well enough. Does anyone have an ECM tuned by Xopti? I emailed them and they send you a tune through email based on your mods for $100. This sounds reasonable to me, but does anyone have anything good or bad to say about Xopti?

I have nothing but good to say about Mike, (Xopti). I’ve e-mailed him several times and he’s always responded with insightful and thorough answers.

Though it certainly wasn’t required, I was happy enough with his answers to give him a $25 donation.

That's good. He seems like a good guy and knows alot about tuning these ECMs. Just telling him what mods I have will give me a decent tune though right?

As this is a winter project and being from Michigan, you probably won’t be riding until March or April; you should make an effort to better understand ECM Spy and tuning. There have been lots of posts on BadWeb. You can learn a lot in the KV.

I’m sure Xopti will provide you with more than a decent tune, but keep this in mind. No two engines are exactly the same. They can be the same model; same year, same HP, have the same mods but each engine will have subtle differences.

In the real world, this probably won’t matter much with a street bike.

I know, and thats a good point. I just havnt had the time to truly sit down and get familiar with ECMspy. I understand the basics. I have a few months to decide what i'm going to do.

I went with a map from Al @ American Sport Bike. He has one of his bikes with same year and setup as mine. His map is just about spot on, but as stated before no 2 bikes are exact.

From my understanding based on posts here, Mike sends you a rough map to put on the bike, then based on data and feedback you provide he tunes as needed.

I know him personally, very nice guy and helpful, however, if you don't understand the concept will be better for you to go on his site and look for the tutorial that explains step by step how it's done and if after that you still have a problem just contact him so he can guide step by step.

Well, I havent completed the tune from him yet (as I can't find any darn time to get all the mods done to the bike...just sitting in a box )

but so far he has been helpful!
So good, he will be getting a tail light for his tune :-)

Are we not able to comment and opine about a very helpful and talented guy if he’s not a sponsor?

Probably not. Is there a list somewhere of the topics and sponsors that we can discuss?

It seems pretty ridiculous not to be able to talk about someone who from what I hear is a great help to many people. Im just trying to get as much information as possible, so I can make a good decision on where I want to take my Buell. After hearing things on here and other forums it looks like I will be going with Xopti, sponsor or not.

Yea he doesn't appear to be a sponsor, no banner in the sponsor section, but several sponsors don't have one. There is nothing wrong with talking about him and his offerings. The problem was he was coming here advertising without paying for that privilege. So essentially he was stealing food off the plate of the sponsors and Badweb itself. When possible, I buy from the sponsors. Keeping them in business keeps Badweb in business.

Not sure if he is a sponsor or not, a while back I was telling him to get with Blake on it. If he did..

I honestly have not talked with him in a while as I have been trying to find the time to install everything on the bike before a tune.

If he is NOT a sponsor.....he should become one sometime soon!

Looking through this thread, I don’t see where mike is promoting himself.

I’ve also e-mailed Al @ American Sport Bike who is a sponsor. His response to my question was as informative as the questions I asked Mike.

I’ll probably spend $700-$800 on several winter projects. About $300-$400 of this will be spent at Al’s, mainly because I liked the fact that he took the time to answer the question and explained why

Oxygen151 simply asked "Does anyone have an ECM tuned by Xopti?" People posted their OPINIONS. I don't see anywhere in this thread where Xopti has advertised his product for sale...

Are we not allowed to share an OPINION or an experience (good or bad) about something/ someone that is not a sponsor???

If so, there goes all the Good/Bad Dealer theads if they are not a sponsor here...

I have to agree that this originally started as on opinion based thread. No different than that the hundreds of "what's the best oil" threads. But yet I don't see those getting yanked. Mobil, Royal Purple, Valvoline...etc aren't sponsors here either. But ya don't hear anyone saying anything about those.

I've personally dealt with Mike (xopti) and feel that he is a real stand up guy. He has done a lot for the Buell community. If it wasn't for guys like him and the inventors of ecmspy then we would all still be using tfi units to tune our bikes. We all know how much fun those were to use.

As for those who don't trust his tunes. I have to say that everyone has there own way of tuning. For example lets say you own a Mustang and purchase two tuners for the same vehicle. An SCT and a Diablosport. Guess what both companies will have different ways of tuning. They both work it's just they do it differently.

Paint, you are missing the point. I already posted my opinions and experiences. Most seem happy with his work, some aren't.

My point was he should become a sponsor here.

He is a great asset for us Buellers, but he can help in more ways than one.

Xopti is not currently a sponsor here on BadWeB. This thread is on a very fine line in my opinion. It's currently asking for opinions and feedback from a known vendor, as long as it stays on this level, the thread will probably stand. Of course, Blake may overrule me on this. However, if Xopti comes on and responds or promotes his services, then the thread takes another direction and becomes non-sponsored advertising. That's when the thread would be moved from public view. As Froggy has stated, it's our sponsors that keep BadWeB running.

HI TURK!
glad to see you again!!!

JUST A SIDE NOTE:

ALL THIS TIME THE 2008 AND ALL 1125R CAN BE TUNED WITH ECMSPY

I JUST CHOSE NOT TO DO IT.

THERE IS A CATCH IN HOW TO DO IT THATS IT.

been there the whole time

IF YOU Have the proper ecm files its quite simple but those files are not publicly available.

again not to bash on any one. there is multiple ways to get what you want from a bike. as race setups are different than street.

you are given a basic layout and basic codes to follow for home use.

i use them as a very basic guide.

to get the full tuning power there is a much more direct use a 4 gas gauge is used. read from both header pipes separately then more data is changed. stuff you cant see in ecmspy.

the basic charts are developed on the 4 gas for a basic starting point on setup types. every bike will have different finale values . all dependent on weather temp and other conditions. just like the big boys at the drag track. nothing is perfect at all times.

but much more reliable than stock.

besides mods make things change. some require less fuel some more fuel. all keeping the afr and epa regulations in sync.

i dont post much here i dont want to upset anyone.

but i have a thing to say!!!

seems with time things are forgotten.ecmspy long ago didnt exist. i have been there and helped develop parts run data do test and ect. from the early beginning. then as a beta runner and still in the works on other development that is shared 100% free. seems all has forgotten that. i also posted the places to get the cables at the best price long ago. vendors then took my data and are selling cables from free info i gave out. yet i dont get any benefit from any of it not a single discount.
I have shared data with vendors and racers on badweb to help them get data they needed on a few areas they was fighting in the ecm. what they did with it i dont know. i always try to help and update new findings as we figure then out. it seems we have recently finished the full data on all ecms from 1999 to 2009. the directory files from the complete ecms. every bite of data what it is and what it does. all bike models.

i like the thanks i get from helping develop the biggest thing we all use ( ECMSPY ).

if it wasn't for a few people who developed a awesome program. then users who took it to find what when where and why things happen it would never existed.
sometimes i wonder if it was ever worth the effort we all put into it to get it where it is today. as we could of easily kept it to ourselves. then no one would have it and that would truly suck.

just like when the time was ready to release the info to do the un listed ecm as well as the 1125r the whole time.

your all welcome for the free programs and data we have given out freely to use.

reguards

mike

Hah, well i suspect there goes this thread. I honestly was just trying to get some feedback from people who have dealt with him before. Theres nothing wrong with that, sponsor or not. As Buell owners, we all want our bikes to be the best that they can be. Thats all i'm here for and I simply was just trying to gain as much knowledge from you guys as possible, so that I make the best decision. Thanks again everyone.

i'd be dissapointed if this thread was zapped by admins because regardless of issues between admins and one retailer mentioned in this thread it had been about what people think of a given option and that is why i have ghosted this forum for years and used it to make decisions on what to do for my buell. if a question can't be asked then that's both lame and make this site less useful for me. since it is obvious that nothing was being done inappropriately it seems odd that people see interested in even bringing up a past issue that wasn't in any way relevant to the original poster's query. i'd like it a lot if a person who says the new cr can be tuned not be chased off or torqued off since that is the bike i am currently looking to pick up. the community is small enough as it is!

just this selfish lurker's opinion...no warranty implied.
