Daves,

Maybe the '03 XB'ers are half hoping for a recall, ya think? Or waiting for their belt to break before doing something about it?

Between those reasons & the fact that it's the holiday season & money is probably tight due to buying gifts for everyone & their brother, I think you are dead on target.

Dave, I want the kit bad, but like others I will probably have to wait a while. Can you see if they will do a New Years sale instead. Maybe for the month of January? If not, I will do my best to come up with the scratch.

I wouldn't hold my breath for any "recall" on the 03 belts, if properly handled they work fine.

03XB9R
I, in my "official" I work for a dealership role, can't recommend that you run it or any belt without the "approved" guards in place. What you do on your own is, well, your business.

Bubba,
Get out there and clean those stalls, Rudolph has the runs!

Dyna,
I understand what time of year it is, that's why I put it on sale. I also know what happens to Buell parts sales here in Iowa this time of year(winter) and just want to keep up the volume for the parts dept.

Tell you what, call me on Dec 31st(we close at 4pm), put the kit on your CC and you still won't have to pay for it til the end of Jan.

I saw a chain used in place of the belt on a race setup of the firebolt. What is the difference? Cons and pros to belts or a chain.

Chain drive lets you change your final drive ratio much easier as long as you have the axle adjustment or don't mind chain slop/slack. Chains are also less fragile due to "improper" handling but will also break when you least want them to just like belts will.

Using/converting to chain drive will most likely void your warranty though. Just thought I'd throw that one in. 8)

Oddly enough...there seems to be a relationship between winter Buell parts sales in Iowa and the number of warm days in Arkansas.

Let's just say that the only curve my new Buell has failed to negotiate successfully was my own rather steep learning curve in a gravel parking lot.

Daves-

Blaster asking an XB question: I see what's in the kit, but what does it *do* for the '03 XBs? Better, faster, more reliable, able to leap tall buildings with a single bound? ;)

Thanks!

All it does for the 03s is "upgrade?" to the new, thicker less likely to be mishandled belt. No change in performance.
Some riders have been spitting belts while others have the same belt with 20,000 hard miles(Sam) on them.
Swapping has been brought up several times so I thought I'd do a "one time deal" to make it over 200.00 cheaper to swap belts if the rider feels it is needed.
That's all.
I'm staying with the stock 03 setup on my soon to be done 9R on steroids.

Dave, Dave, Dave....you are an evil man to flaunt this temptation in front of me! ;) I'm with Misato on this one, how 'bout March? (or February if that's a slow parts month). People will have tax refunds burning holes in their pockets.

Evaddave: biggest difference (to me anyway) 03 belt change interval is 15,000 miles. 04 belt change interval is 25,000 miles. The upgrade will pay for itself by 62,000 miles! :)

Good point Chainsaw, I can't believe I didn't come up with that

It was also pointed out to me that you can get the "kit" with the fancy diamond cut sprocket for only about 5.00 more! Thanks Lyle.

If mine breaks between now and the Dec 31, I will get one. I believe mine is one of the sturdy ones. I can’t see any wear. In addition, I still have warranty till next September! It is tempting.
Thanks, Santa Dave.
