Let's put things in perspective.

*I* am the one who (mistakenly) thought the RSS would overcool the fuel rail. I remembered the problem had something to do with the fuel rail, but the problem turns out to be the opposite.

I am not now, nor am I ever likely to be, a Buell factory representative.

Jeez, where's that guy with the 200mph Firebolt when we need him??

I would have expected a native speaker to have learned to read his own language better. The quoted article states exactly the opposite: "it turns out that if this scoop has too big of an opening the airflow is not directed to the fuel rail as effectively".

No single word of "overcooling". How would it be possible to overcool a fuel rail? I'm still waiting for answers.

I would have expected the same from you.

The article says, as you quoted, that the larger opening does not direct the air over the fuel rail as effeciently as the smaller opening. In other words, the larger RSS UNDERCOOLS the fuel rail according to the Buell techs.

I NEVER said the RSS overcools the fuel rail. "Over" and "Under" are being used as prefixes in this case, and are antonyms of each other - but then again, being a native speak, you already knew that.

With respect to all addressed,

Trojan, not knowing where the factory came up with the"excuse" is not a credible answer from someone selling aftermarket parts for said factory's products period. I would hope someone selling parts that affect the operation of expensive machinery did a little homework on the application before designing and or selling it. But having seen your site and products I am sure that you just had a poor choice of words in your post.

Anony, You had a bad day (assumed) and Trojan pushed your buttons the wrong way. Just my observation but starting a post with "Freakin Troll" really detracts from your credibility as a valued source of information that we have come to appreciate from the Anonies in general.
Perception of character goes a long way in solidifying the facts of an argument.Have that cup of decaf like Jaime suggested and know that the majority of us truly appreciate the hard work and valuable information you folk bring with you.

Xl1200r , undercool, overcool? still not cool

I had the impression "Symmetry" was far down on the list of Buell design criteria...

Have you seen the new Buell-designed implants?

No, you'd have a motor that runs about 100°F warmer on the rear cyclinder.

I think this thread has now run it's course - nobody is going to come out waving a white flag but those who have misbehaved know they have done so, so let's move on.

In the meantime does anyone know if it's true that the CF chin fairing leads to over cooling to the licence plate, or is that a rumour too?

On a hot day at a standstill or in parade duty... a) An aftermarket RSS undercools can hinder adequate cooling of the fuel rail, as outlined by the Ask Abe article posted in here twice now, proving Trojan to be CORRECT in stating than an RSS does NOT overcool the fuel rail.

This is why playing pretend "engineer" is risky.

Try and think of a circumstance where the opposite might be the case.

If you cannot, then you fail. Figured it out yet? If yes, congratulations. If not read on...

In the high heat, inadequate cooling case above, which was initially so poorly described, the ambient temperature is high; there is no ambient airflow, only that generated by the fan and the ducted forced-air cooling system and those combined are absolutely vital for proper engine cooling.

Is that always the case? Is the ambient temperature always high and is there never a plentiful supply of ambient airflow outside of that imparted by the fan? Can you not think of a case where a LARGER right side scoop might be putting a lot more cooling air flow onto certain areas of the engine? That is what the things do so well, yes? They have proven to prevent the fan from running nearly as much compared to the OEM ducting. Is that correct or no?

Now what the heck might happen if the ambient air is cold and humid and what if there is plentiful ambient airflow, you know like when cruising down the road? Might that be problematic in combination with the refrigerative cooling action of atomized fuel mixed with ambient air, of high humidity?

Ever hear of how a carburetor can ice up?

Ignorance in combination with arrogance... well that ain't a good thing at all. It's why the folks who see to it that we have bridges and buildings that don't fall down and planes that stay in the air are true professionals, intensively educated, extensively trained, and greatly experienced in their chosen technical field(s).

Gossipy or indignant internet chat-a-bouts need not apply.

And as to your personal understanding of the need for anonymity... I repeat...

Good people have been fired for information that they have shared and that has ended up on BadWeB. The highly valuable information contributed anonymously here, purely, unselfishly for the benefit of Buell enthusiasts is legion. That you cannot grasp the need for anonymity is 100%, entirely irrelevant. You really shouldn't bother yourself over the issue. Nothing that you or anyone else has to say on the matter will change the BadWeB policy concerning anonymous contributions.

Feel free to natter on endlessly with great indignation. Hope that works out for you.
