I know. That's why I'm getting so pissed off at them.

I've said that a couple times now when talking to them and it just goes in one ear and out the other.

I just bought a Uly there, you'd think they'd at least try to treat me decently for a month, for Christ's sake.

....tell me about it. I TRIED to buy my TT from my servicing dealer, but they kept pushing other bikes they had on the floor and not what I wanted. So, a fellow badwebber looked up what I wanted on the dealer network and off I went to the dealer that had the bike! When I pulled my new TT into the service bay, you should've seen the sales managers face.... hahahahahaha

well, I'm really glad I went for an 06 instead of a new 08. My 06 got 56mpg today in mixed backroads and highway riding. And, Eldredma, I'm not so sure about ethanol saving America. But I won't hijack the thread ; )

I just picked up a XB12R last weekend (build Jun 08) and after reading this post I decided to go out and see my mpg. I got about 56mpg riding within my break-in limits. Running 91 oct in Nevada.

That's very interesting David and quite helpful. My XB12R has a Sept. 07 build date and my MPG, like most of the other '08 riders has never exceeded 41 and i only got that once.

I just confirmed like everything else in this world, if you don't like the first answer you get, CALL BACK and speak to a different person.
I just called my local dealer, not the purchasing dealer and he said he could check if there were any updates to the ECM by my VIN #. I gave him the number and he said it came up clean. He also stated that the system was real-time and if there were anything it would be in there. I explained my MPG dilemma since I felt for the first time I had someone who actually was willing to help.
He confirmed how I was checking my MPG, via my trip and filling it back up to the top, etc, etc. He then gave me the customer support number for the "Motor Company" to check with them. At least I finally had a respectable service person.
I am going to call them next. Let you know.

Cool!!! I called the phone number 414-343-4056 press 4 for Motorcycle and warranty questions and the system immediately hangs up on me. I tried it twice LOL!!!

It must have been the rest of you guys filling their voice mail to capacity.

Space
What you're saying is that running the VIN# through their HD Net will NOT tell them if there is an updated ECM flash for the '08?

Thanx.

Bummer. Man I am none to thrilled about this fuel economy. My Honda civic gets better gas mileage than my bike. Please don't get me wrong I love my XB12, but its gas mileage freakin sucks. My Brothers 05 XB9 gets almost twice what my bike gets!

There is certainly something wrong with the MPG on these bikes. My new daily commute(9 miles), nets me 56MPG on my "ulybolt". I know there was some question at one point about "blueing" pipes.

Do they look worse than this?

my pipes are the same.

arctic: I believe thats correct. I thought I read that from another poster here. The only way they'll know is if they use the digital technician. My dealer fumbled through paperwork when I asked them about it and said they don't have any info about an update. I explained badweb and everyone else getting the reflash AND that they have to use the digital tech to find out about the reflash. It will tell them an update is ready. They tried and sure enough, I got my reflash. Your dealer should be more than willing to do this for you.....

Steve, you should replace your wireform clutch cable holder with the new stamped metal holder before it breaks and melts into your pipes. Just FYI

Thanks Space. I will try yet again but after that I am going to start putting things in writing to the motor company. Anyone who wants to be a part of it will be welcome. I am just trying to exhaust all other avenues first.

I am no bike mechanic but if '08 is the first year for DDFI III doesn't it just seem that there is an extremely high probability this is directly related to the MPG?

Nice pic Steve! Mine look almost identical as yours with approx. 1800 miles on the odometer.

Not to hijack the thread, but the metal brackets are available at your local Buell dealership. Mine was a warranty item, cause it broke on my 08. I'm not sure for earlier years though.

Nine miles is too short to fully heat up the engine, so WUE might stay active. 56 mpg is fully okay then. Many tests have shown that EC models use about 5.0 liters (1.3 gallons) per 100 km (62 mls), which results in 47 mpg. Anybody above 50 mpg should better go and get a 50cc scooter or some other moped. No need for a full blown bike then.

Regards,
Gunter

"Anybody above 50 mpg should better go and get a 50cc scooter or some other moped. No need for a full blown bike then. "

No offense, but that's a pretty dumb statement. What's the problem with getting good MPG on your daily commute by not riding at 10/10ths? Why buy a scooter that sucks all the time when you can ride your Buell slowly to get great mileage, then rip on it when you want?

9 miles is *NOT* too short to fully warm up the bike. I get 1/2 way ready in the summer months(throw my over pants on, and boots.) Go outside start the bike, put my jacket on, plug in my iPhone to my autocom system, and helmet on, which takes approximately 2-3 minutes. Then ride to work. I can assure you it is fully warmed up far before reaching my place of employment. Especially since 1/4 of the ride is stop and go city traffic.

Spoke to HD/Buell Customer Support this morning. Long story short, they offered no help. I did however, get one small piece of information.
Unless, my dealership did it before I picked it up, there is in deed an update to the ECM. Since my bike was built in Sept, '07 it is considered an early build.

I then called the dealership, 25 miles from where I work, and asked if I could have them hook me up to the digital tech and get the latest flash. It won't be for free either!!!

I am going to try and do this today. I will keep you all posted. Again, I am just covering all the bases before taking things to a higher level.

Ok. I understand that I may be going overboard in my frustration...
But Buell states on their web site for the XB models 48 Urban and 65 Highway! My last two tanks have been 37.2 mpg and 35.6 mpg! I am shifting between 2500-3000 rpm's and never once went over 5000! My driving is a 50/50 of highway and city. I am just really starting to feel cheated.

i use my scg for transportation, when its not raining...i would be happy, if i could just run regular gas and save about ten percent..i doubt you could get away with it on these lean running motors
..i have been getting 47mpg on a regular basis now, which is acceptable to me, other than the performance issues..

Buell, like Aston-Martin and Kia, uses a federally mandated formula.

I'd be willing to wager that the factories put as much faith in the numbers "on the window" sticker as owners.

I knew, when I bought my last two cars in 2006, that the "estimated MPG" on the window stickers was a bureaucrats "best guess".

There's a big difference between being off by a few MPG (oh, no, I only get 18MPG instead of 20MPG!) and being off by 20+ MPG. My Mazda is actually outperforming its window MPG, in some cases by more than 10%.

Obviously, something changed. The motors themselves are virtually identical between 07 and 08 - the DDFI changed, and suddenly people are having dramatic reductions in gas mileage between model years of the same bike?

To quote Judge Judy, don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

I love my XT, and while I'm not having as bad a time of it as a lot of people that have posted here, it is not performing like it should in the mileage department. My mileage is actually getting worse as I get more miles on it.
