Just did 1000 service sans fluids (I did those).

Paid HD $75.

On my last ninja, same first service cost $185.

Not bad!!

What is involved in the service? I would prefer not to pay $85 an hour to change my oil and filter like I just did on my M2. I just paid $243 for a 10K service, cable lubing, oil/filter, and changing tires. They did throw in a free battery from a demo pull which helped, but between that, my new XB, a new bike for my wife and a new deck, money's tight!

Just for contrast, the last routine service I paid for on my current bike (you'll never guess what kind) was $700. And the scary thing is that they weren't ripping me off; I just did the exact same service and it took me an entire weekend...having to practically dismantle the bike. I'm not that slow with this stuff.

And people wonder why I find the Buell and it's hydraulic lifters so appealing...

I did the fluids myself as I am anal that way. They charged me for one hour to do the service required checks, adjusted the clutch, lubed the cables etc.

They also checked out the fuel pump, which I thought might be too loud. We cured that by installing the race pipe, which of course drounds out the fuel pump now!

Did you install pipe only? if so, did you have to reset the computer or does it run right with adding pipe alone?

No the full race kit. Muffler, ECM and air filter. Yes, they reset the computer too. Nice change, smoother, louder and faster.

Same as the oil, pretty much.

Open clutch inspection cover.
Remove drain plug (rear bolt in bottom of primary case).
Drain.
Clean magnet on drain plug, inspect o-ring for damage.
Replace plug, tighten to 29-31ft/lbs (39-42Nm).
Replace with 30oz Mobil 1 75W90 Synthetic (my suggestion) through clutch inspection cover.
Replace cover.

Good to go.

HI
Lee From the UK.(XB9S Yellow with full race kit)

Over here the 1000 mile firsts service is include in the NEW PRICE, just had mine done.

Cost of 2500 mile one is, so i am told about £150/200 ($249.12/$332.17) and the 5000 mile one about £250/300 ($415.21/$498.25).

How does that compare to the cost over there?

Also i have priced up some bits for it
99493-03Y Manual £51.04 ($84.77)
91585-03Y Tail bag £113.69 ($188.83)
50514-02Y Tank bag £155.05 ($257.53)

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. i think it will be cheaper to by from a dealer over there and have its shipped across the pond ????

Lee,
Check with Daves in Waterloo, but the manuals for most Buells run around $45 US. I am sure you can have it shipped for far less than $40.

Hi Lee.
Check out Buell's US version of their website, it has prices in dollars on lots of Buell related goodies.

http://www.buell.com/en_us/

Firebolt™ Tail Bag
91581-02Y      $99.95

Tank Bag
50514-02Y      $149.95

I think the parts manual is $53-$58. Both Dave at Iowa Harley/Buell and Buckinfubba at Tilleys offer a 10% discount to members of the BadWeb. I don't know what international shipping runs, might be worth it.

On service, I would advise buying a service manual and a jack or wheel stands. The 2500 mile service consists of "inspect this, inspect that". Not worth paying 200 pounds for something you can accomplish yourself in about 30 minutes. The 5000 mile is a bit more involved, but not exactly rocket science. All well within the ability of a person with modest mechanical inclinations.

Lee,

You live in a more socialist country than we do here in the USA. You face higher tariffs and taxes. Before buying here (in the USA) and shipping to the UK, make sure that they don't tarriff/tax your purchase when it goes through customs.

Good luck,
Paul in MI
