I've been ramming around since last summer on my first Buell ('00 M2), happier than a fly in cow dung but now I've been reading all these posts about the 9R and 9S and how awesome they are. Then I keep seeing the new Buell commercials on TV. I find myself checking out the '03 models at the dealer. Now the big unveiling of the new '04 models is set for one Saturday next month at the area dealer.

Can someone give me a good reason why I shouldn't get either an '03 9 or an '04 12?

Don't fight it.
It won't do you any good.
Go ahead.

You'll LOVE it!

I've ridden my buddy's M2 several times...nice bike, but a big pig compared to my 9R.

You'll love it!

Take two couples, put couple 1 on an M2, put couple 2 on the XB9, go for a tank of gas ride (100-180 miles). Have the couples swap bikes, do another ride. At the end ask both couples which bike they preferred.

The M2 and the 9R are not the same bike, one might say the M2 is a big pig, one might say the 9R is a minibike, but in reality each bike is different and only the rider/owner's use of said bike can determine which is better for his/her own needs.

Paul,
Ride both, then decide. It's your own ass and not the words here that will be feeling your end decision. If you go with the XB platform then crank it over and grin, and if you stay with the M2 I'm sure you'll still be cranking and grinnin. Either way, do what works for you.

Yea, I know after sitting on the 9R/S, it feels so light. I need to ride one to see if I can deal with the position. The M2 is great because the pegs are lower. When I want to go, I just put the feet on the rear pegs, lie on the tank and crank it up.

I like the black XB12R but the amber wheels have got to go.

PRS,

I have had a 99 M2 for the past four years and truly love the bike. It is comfortable and does everything I need. That being said, I got an 9R last week and I will end up selling the M2.

You could say the M2 is probably more comfortable and the better of the two for two-up riding, but the 9R is just an awesome machine.

For me, my wife and I hated riding together and since she now owns her own bike, I got this just for me. I paid only $7995 for mine and could not justify $11,000 for the 12R. I would be shopping for an Tuono at that price. And this way, I can put the extra $3,000 away for my kids.

Either way, if you own a Buell, you should be happy.

Hey Paul-

Would it be fair to say that you have an affinity for a Dragon besides the famed road?

>>The M2 is great because the pegs are lower

You can always put the pegs from the XB Lightning series on to the Firebolt to give a little more leg room. Easy swap.

Hey, wait a second. I almost forgot. This is America and though they may one day try, Congress has yet to pass a law saying I can't have more than one bike!!!

It should be good, I'll just get it with that extra hole in my head I also need.

<~~ Proud owner of two Buells.

Twice the fun, and should one of them be down for whatever reason, you still get to putz around on two wheels instead of four!

Paul,
You never told us that that was even an option. By all means, if you have the means get three or four.

Mike, yea, it's an option but me thinks me should maybe invest some money I've been saving b/c the market is turning around and they are talking big growth in the 3rd and 4th quarters. It will be back next year for sure (I hope). I just turned the big 40 so I'd hate to think it's a mid-life thing. Let's see, recently bought new car (it really was time), have a hot bike, young girl friend and thinking of another hot bike. hmmmm.....nah....couldn't be!!!

Why do I keep seeing that "ride to the edge" that Daves always signs off his posts with??
