i went to buy a harley. got a price from the dealer then mentioned that i would be trading in a blast under the full purchase price trade in deal. boy did that change the feel of the transaction!

you're not just buying a bike. you're investing in a relationship with the dealership. find a good one and support it. think of it as the lesser of many evils if you have to but just keep in mind that price isn't everything, especially with a bike.

Every car salesmen I've ever encountered was a looser and a parasite. They are nothing more than someone that couldn’t make it in a real job. They rank right up there with insurance salesmen, real-estate sales, financial investors, religious fanatics and drug pushers. These amblyomma americanums contribute absolutely nothing to society except preying on the preyable.

Jim Witt,
Your open-mindedness really showcases you level of intelligence. I won't even bother trying to argue with that logic.

Prs,
Sounds like you did well. To be completely honest I don't even mind selling a car for no profit (because I get paid a certain amount no matter how much gross there is in the deal) as long as we do it quickly and without all the games. My favorite customers are the ones that come in, sit down, and tell me exactly what they want to buy the car for. If I can do the deal great, if not then we part as friends from there. However, if I come back and say no, don't even waste my time by asking "Well, what can you sell it for?". The other one I love is when a customer wants to know my best price and then when I tell them they want to dicker from there. Best price is not a starting point for negotiations. When that happens I simply announce that we are through doing business together. I work in a Toyota/BMW dealership so it is run a little differently. We don't run to the manager for every little decision. We work our own deals and then the manager just signs off on it at the end.

Dynarider,
My comments to Jim Witt apply to you as well. I am not sure where you guys get off personally attacking anyone based on their job. It is low-life customers like you that I enjoy booting off my lot!

Dave,
Thank you for the understanding.

Low life customers?? No wonder you hate your job with such a shitty attitude. Without all the "lowlifes" you car salesmen would be out of a frickin job. Thats actually not a bad idea.

The only thing worse than car salesmen are telemarketers & insurance agents.

In the time I was selling cars I threw several people out. There are deals you are better off without.
The look on the customers face, when I would tell them that we were done and that they should leave was, well priceless. They(the customer) must think that they can come in, be an asshole, insult you and still have you kiss their ass. Kissin ass isn't in the job description. I sometimes would go as far as give them the phone number and address of other car dealers in the area.
The dealership I worked at, the minimum pay on a no/low profit deal was $50.00, after taxes that left about $40.00. Oh yeah, I'm going to spend 4 hours with some butthead,be insulted for $40.00? While they want to argue about 2-300.00 on a 40,000 vehicle. Not likely.
Besides that, even if you do the deal those types of customers almost always give you a bad CSI survey. Some people, you just can't make them happy no matter what.

Most of you on this board are aware that I am more than willing to go the "extra" mile for my customers. It was the same when I sold cars(probably why I had so many repeat customers). But, there is always a limit.
How's the saying go? Something about judging a person before you walk a mile in their shoes?

Keep your chin up Americanrice!

Ride to the edge!

Jim witt,
I'll bet your openmindedness led you to those conclusions, I agree. The retail auto industry created this way of doing busniess. I went into Chandler HD to look at a few used buells they advertised, they only had one, not 5 they display in cycletrader, they had a sticker on the 03 xb9s's of $6999, I asked WOW, whats the OTD price, guy states about 10,000???? I ask, How do you mark up 30% over asking price? He then started listing all the rediculas fees, one more notable is $300 for a service to register the bike, I almost lost my lunch! I hope all Az buellers read this and pass it on. This is the infamous AZ motorsports group at work. Piss on customer service, you'll get sodomized in the service dept.also! Learn to fix it yourself!

wow. Strong attitudes about a man doing a job. Sales is an artform. You get what you negotiate, and deals change daily. Incentives, rebates, all that change daily.

Just do what you gotta do. Worse than the car sales is the health industry. They have you believing that they are the only way to the cure, and they charge so much money for every little thing. That is a parasitic system which I do my very best to avoid, first becuz you gotta be sick, and then becuz they charge so much money.

Oh well.
Got you bent over it seems.

Then, on a different note: I was perusing Cycletrader for S2s. There are eight listed and all of them have less than 6000 miles! Do you suppose there is a fault in the board that drops a zero off every mileage figure? Or has it been raining in Arizona constantly for the last eight years? Or were there that many people who bought the early Buells as investments and are now realizing that its not gonna happen? Or has HD been doing a booming business in speedos recently? I guess when I get serious, hopefully in a month or two, I'll be asking here for feedback on specific ones. Might be changing my handle soon.

Just put a deposit down yesterday on a white 9R. $7995 plus tax. No BS fees. But go try and buy a Harley from then and you will pay far beyond retail.

Part of what I love about Buell. Very excited to say the least. Have to clean up the M2 and sell it, unless my wife forgets that part of the deal.

For the Blast, if you trade it in within a year you are supposed to get purchase price as trade in value. At least it was for 2000 & 2001.

I was told that trade in deal was still available in 2002 on the Blasts from someone who did just exactly that. She ordered a Fatboy, couldnt get it until that November. She rode the blast all summer long, just getting used to driving with the clutch, then when her bike came in,they gave her what she paid for the Blast off the price of the Fatboy.Im not sure if the deal applies to 2003 or 2004.

Yeah, I got hosed by that one. 2001 Blast, wanted to trade it in on my Firebolt. "Sorry, the Firebolt's a 2003 model." Wasn't when I laid down $500 to hold mine, I even have the paperwork that says 2002 XB9R on it. Needless to say, I was a little pissed.

Good service is a lot like buying oats. If you want good quality oats you have to pay the price. But if you want oats that have been through the horse - well, they are a little cheaper.

It irked me, but in the long run I can't really complain. This way I've got a 'back-up' bike, so I'm never without wheels, plus my g/f got her license so now she can ride the Blast. Made (and still does) a big difference to my checking account though.

Since we are on the subject, kind of, I have a customer that is worse than most but not that far off from the norm. Let's see, I sell him a FXSTDI over the phone, get everything lined up for this Weds night for him. So he shows up Saturday about 2 hours before we close, while I'm in the middle of one deal and have another waiting(these people were supposed to be here) and of course he wants me to stop the world and take care of him. I had a friend of mine show him some helmets and stuff til I got freed up. Got the paperwork done but he doesn't want to pick the bike up yet cause he doesn't have a lic. to ride it. So Weds it is, about 6pm.
Well to make a long story short he just called and is on his way, be here about 15 minutes before we close and of course I'll still do the whole walk around so I should be home about 8pm.
Does anyone know how to keep an appt anymore? Sometimes I wonder why I even bother setting them up.

Sorry for the rant, just a sneak peek into Dave's world.

Ride to the edge!

Kaese,

Picking up a Firebolt Wed, $7995 plus tax and $80 registration and it's mine. That is in NY though, and the winter is not far off. Seems like they can be had around here for around $8,000.

You are only boned if the dealer sucks when you need service. Otherwise, enjoy.

I am some glad I am right up there with "Drug Pushers", damm do I feel special.

Jim,

I hate to disappoint you but I am at a point in my career where I most of my business is referral from other "Insurance Clients" and most people I meet actually like me.

I can actually choose with whom I do business with and when I run across an ignorant SOB like yourself I usually tell them I can not be of assistance and refer them to my competition.

That way while they are tying up my competitions time I can sneak in and steal away their good clients. So there is a place for you anyway.

Do you know what I hate!!!! Damm engineers/designers that know it all and like to push their gospel down everyones throats. Go play your fiddle to someone that cares!!!

I won't type what I wanted to really say but if we were face to face you'd certainly get a piece of my mind.

I am very glad I did not meet you prior coming to the 20th Anniversary Event as my image of American People would have been tainted. Everyone I ran into from Detroit to Racine and all parts in between were very friendly, helpful, very accomodating and overall quite nice.

Oh Yeah, your off my Screech List.

Dyna,

After meeting you at the 20th my opinion was actually starting to change. You know despite his posts he may be an actual nice guy BUT maybe its the shield of the net that you are hiding behind lets your TRUE personality out.

BTW, (BTW means "By The Way"...) I think the presence of a winkie (or other emoticon, which stands for EMOTion iCON", get it??) means "take this in jest", or "I might be kidding", or something close to that. Well I guess it worked, it raised emotions! Oh, the tricks on me.

take this in jest", or "I might be kidding", or something close to that.

Why would someone even in jest make such a Nasty comment, what fun is it being so mean ?? Everyone has their professions and I think anyone would get defensive if a comment of that nature were made about their choice of a career !

No one is better than anyone, and if they really feel they are, you'd think they would be kind about it !! But I guess there really are just some people who really are mean deep down, that's sad !!
