alright, so i'm a gear head. i usually stick to cars but the sheer speed of a bike is amazing. i've got a xb12r firebolt with a jardine slip-on. 11.4 in the quarter is horrible. hehe. i wanna go faster. has anyone here played with nitrous on these bikes?
A. bottle location?
B. cpu reprogram or fuel solenoids or...?
C. switch, WOT or manual?
D. 25 , 50 shot?
E. good spot for nitrous jets?

...i know there is a lot more to it than this but lets get the simple stuff outta the way..

I too would like more info. I've heard that the xb's fuel pump is too small. I'd like to find a way to boost the voltage and add a small dry shot.
Could I pull the side cover and take out a little timing?

Run the wet system. Dry shots don't make alot of power, and blow motors.

With Nitrous, you are adding extra oxygen. Without fuel in the requisite proportions, all it does is make the motor lean, and air-cooled motors hate that.

Bottle location? Up to you. Slanted on the subframe, tucked in the airbox, poking up out of the back seat; all have been done before, and some are better than others. I prefer the back seat mounting. Looks cool, easy access, and less likely to pop a bottle in your face than some other locations.

CPU/Fuel solenoids? A proper wet system will have the solenoids with jets that you need. They cost more, but for good reason.

Switch/WOT/Manual? Up to you. If you don't have enough self-control to avoid using the nitrous below 3000 RPM, then got WOT switch. At least then, if you're dumb enough to use it coming off the line, you'll take yourself out of the gene pool. If you're drag racing for consistancy, I rectamend the controller. If it's a street-cred thing, get a manual switch (NOT horn-button, please. Horns are important, too), excepting aforementioned self-control issues.

Shot size? What ever you want, but like sex, make sure it's wet, first.

Good spot for nitrous jets? I think you mean nozzles. I hope so. Learn the terminology well, this is not a toy.
The nozzle can go in the manifold (req's mods) or can go in the intake stack. Just remember: get it right. If you don't KNOW it, get PROFESSIONAL help, not Badweb knowitalls like me. Think: one nitrous backfire, and parts are coming back at YOUR chest with incredible force.

And don't call it "nozz", please.

Buell timing doesn't work this way.
I've not seen a Nitrous controller that works with a Buell ECM, but I know it's been done before. Pulling timing on Nitrous is a good thing.

The XB's fuel pump makes enough pressure and excess volume for a small nitrous shot in a wet system. bumping the voltage for more pressure is both highly inconsistent, and kills pumps.

so basically...extremely basically... buy a small wet kit and slap it on. haha... i know the dangers, and precautionary measures. i play with cars all day everyday. treat it like a car and i should be ok i guess. thanks for your input JOS

as far as we have been able to figure out on here, seems like i was the first person running n2o on an xb. 4 years and not so much as replaced a gasket. stock bore and stroke 03 xb9 with 94/74 at the wheel without the bottles, plus for the last atleast 2 years it has been bumped up to a 50 shot. although its not like i use it daily.

but apparently i'm just a smart ass and dont know anything so i wont even bother.

haha i love it man! nice power gains? run into any "pinging" issues? worth the hassle?

no pinging issues, my timing retards 2 degrees at full throttle. not so much that you will really notice it when not on the bottles, but every bit helps when you are. it was done in the ecm map

i dont even run a decently sized shot below 4500. the 50 horse is almost pointless as far as usability, but it is fun. the things are so short in wheel base that you hit that in 5th and it will still try to put you on your back. run a smaller shot that you can manage in a couple gears instead of trying to make one big bang at the top end.

i have no safety switches(yes kind of dumb but i control everything this way)

the xb fuel pumps actually put out WAY more pressure then it is recommended to run with your wet n2o system. you can kind of compensate with jetting sizes though. you just may have to go smaller on the fuel size than it seems like you should, to try and cut down some of the flow. atleast i know it has been done this way.

i actually run a whole different fuel system just for the n2o system. left blinker kicks on the fuel pump and (yes im going to say it) the horn button opens the solenoids.

No_rice can we get a close up of the bottles where they meet the plastics? I've been conteplating the Nitrous mod and even got a few "Sneaky-pete" tanks at the car show back in November.

I wouldn't treat it "Just like a car", as it's air cooled, and prone to detonation. Beyond the fear of holing a piston, it should be similar, just more likely to hole a piston on a dry shot.

Personally, I prefer the nitrous controller for the progressive action, but have never seen/thought/installed one on a Buell, only gixxer's and zx's.

I have to say No_Rice has a clean installation. I've seen the photos of that bike several times, and never noticed the bottle.

" but apparently i'm just a smart ass and dont know anything so i wont even bother. "

I'd say you know enough, and you have more experience with this particular application than I do. (I hope y'all realize I was really only applying the knowitall statement to myself, to avoid a money-grubbing next-of-kin lawsuit in the event of injury or death): )

there are 2 bottles on it. one on each side. same place.

i wouldnt recommend putting them where i did. i like it, but the right bottle sits right on top of the rear rocker box. i mean it touches it. gets plenty warm in the summer. and that warmth raises the bottle pressure. great until it blows the blow off valve which it has done. they plastics are cut so i could sink the bottles in. so is the seat.

i did originally modify the subframe so i could fit them inside the tail section, but after all that work i changed my mind. so technically i have room for 3 more bottles, meaning i COULD fit 5 bottles on it, 3 of which you would never see! one of them fits in the intake hole through the frame
