Is it only the 08 xt that got the better turning radius?

What did they do take back that small amount of extra rake that the long and Uly frames had?

they used fork clamps with more offset to move then out further from the frame, this allowed more turning radius. I think only the xt got the new clamps though........

The XT has the OLD trees and turning radius, and the OLD smaller forks (revalved and resprung for pavement use and shorter travel).

The 08 X has the NEW larger forks and offset trees, providing decreased turning radius.

So the the offset tree's decreased the rake....

Easier than changing a frame..

thanks for the info. I'd like to change my TT to the 08 X suspension......... way in the future........ for the ground clearance. I Think that would look cool, even more hooligan than it does now.... plus the added benefit of more height and smaller turning radius.....

Should be able to do it in stages - I'm 99% sure the forks are the same diameter at the clamps so you can change trees with this years tax refund, and change forks with next years. lol.

There was a detailed how-to posted in the Big, Bad & Dirty forum about updating a '06 or '07 Uly.
Note that the '08 fork lowers were changed, with the axle being offset to the rear to cancel out the trail change you would see from offsetting the forks forward with the new triple clamps.
If you are not concerned about the trail increase, you could leave the forks alone (if you were updating a bike with the same size upper fork tubes as the Uly).
I do recall that you lose you steering lock with this change.

I did the 08 trees on my 06 uly and loved it.

Search for 08 trees as there are several threads.

Is there an advantage to changing the actual forks from the 08 TT to the 08 X besides more ground clearance? I understand changing the trees will give me more turning, but how will that affect the handling? If I decide to just change the tress for more turning, that will work fine correct? I wonder about the lower TT bars. Will they clear the airbox cover with the new trees installed?
