I took my XBS's tail off last week to paint it and install my chopped fender. Now that it's back together, the "battery tray" (for lack of a better term - the plastic piece between the two framerails) is too far forward I think. There's a significant space between the side of the plastic piece and the taillight housing (about 1/4"), and the seat latch is too far forward to catch the hook on the bottom of the seat. However, I have no idea how to push the tray backwards and get it to stay... Any ideas?

Loosen everything back up and wiggle it around till it all fits correctly.

too bad you didnt ask someone on here before taking it apart. some one would have told you to do one side at a time to avoid this problem

Doing one side at a time would've precluded me painting everything at once ;) I'll do that Ohio, thanks... I'm heading to the Gap for a week on Saturday, need to get this straightened out tonight!

I built a uly rear end out of a couple boxes of parts and that is what I had to do.

Well I just spent the past hour+ loosening and wiggling, and I've got effin nothing. I can get the tray to move up to where it's supposed to be, but it won't stay there no matter what I loosen first and tighten later. It's also rather difficult to hold the tray in the correct place while adjusting the two freakin screws that hold it in place in the front (who designed THAT area?! ). So I can get the seat to clip in now, if I push fwd really hard on the area where my butt goes...but if I then pull really hard back, I can get it to pop back out. Maybe I'll see if any of the 3%ers have done this before and can give me a hand...

I hate it when simple, stupid little things hang you up!

Dont sweat it yet. You did chop your own tail right??

If so everything there is original and came apart at one time.

This has been done a number of times in the Barn but I never did one myself.

I am sure we can get ya running!! If nobody can chime in on a quick easy solution I will give ya a call tomorrow afternoon.

Hey Charlie if you're free tonight, feel free to give me a call. I've gotta make a run to Wally World right now, but I should be back by 830, then I start packing.
