hey....i ride a buell firebolt and i had some questions about putting a turbo on because i can not find information anywhere on how to do it. if anyone could help im looking for a full detail or as much detail as possible on how to turbo the bike and set the motor up so it does not just blow up. i have worked on motors all my life but never really got into turbo until i went riding with my friend who has a gsxr 750. which i must admit is a really sweet bike. i love riding buells and i do not want to go to a foreign made bike...i just want to build my buell up to smoke by his gsxr. i know a good amount on turbos but not about putting on a bike. so i was wondering if possible i could have a little help on what kind of turbo i should use...i was planning on putting the turbo under bike right before exit on muffler....which included cutting exhaust and putting new flanges and what not but i love projects. mayb it is not the best spot to put the turbo? this is why i am asking. just want to know exactly what it takes and how to on putting turbo on my firebolt. i also want to know if anyone knows someone who makes custom gears because i want to make the gearing on the bike longer. i figure longer gearing...which could come from sprockets as well...and a turbo would make my bike plenty fast to smoke by my buddy on his gsxr. but please if you are able to give me a good detailed description on building the motor for a turbo and what kind of turbo and such i should get....also here is a picture of my bike before i put the streetfighter exhaust on...and before i painted it black.

A turbo won't change your gear ratios, which is what you will need to smoke a GSXR in a straight line.

There are turbos out there, such as:

The guy who built the one in the third picture is a member of this board, but not a sponsor. I'm sure this thread will get his attention soon enough, and he can tell you more about it.

Hey, use the search tool and look up turbos and user ericz. He has a setup that he has been working on. There is a video somewhere on here too.

you can get the different sprockets right from vortex. you already have chain so it would be no biggie.

and i wouldnt worry about gixxers if you get the right set up.

EricZ's bike has out run Buellgators Busa up to 130. that was before they geared it for more top end. he said he couldnt even run it to its full potential because of the gearing, lol. since then he has regeared it and done alot more tuning.

you could prolly sell your bike, buy an 1125r and still have money left over vs a turbo kit. just a guess on my part tho.

you have a 9, put in the 12 primary. 11% taller gearing. (less than 200 bucks for new parts/gaskets.)

Barker,
He doesn't need to spend $200 on primary gears/chain when he could spend $50 or less on a rear sprocket.

Turbo
EricZ is using a Garrett GT22, if I remember correctly. $750 from Turbometrics.com with an internal wastegate. Picking the turbo is not the hard part. It's oiling to and from, fuel injectors, fpr, possible fuel pump if it doesn't flow enough, then tuning. The details make or break a project, not the fabrication of plumbing.

this primary gearing...where could i get it...i am pretty sure actually that my friend knows a guy who builds race motors for buell...so mayb off of him...but this primary gear...from what i see in the picture im guessing i have to pull case off to get to it?where could i buy it offline? 11% taller gearing plus a different sprocket...and a turbo...i think the bike will move real fast. thanks let me know
