I have had my 9 for three years now. NO WAY I would trade it for a 12. And a 12 is no faster than a 9, I can prove it.

The xb9 gets more rev happy and would be my recommendation if you were to buy your first buell. It wont be such a jumpy bitch if you like riding around town alot (stop and go)

From my experience a xb9 will pull thru the first 4 gears and keep up with my 12 within a bike lentgh or two. The only difference I see is when you really wanna twist 5 gear out a 9 will shrink in your mirror.

THEY ARE AWESOME BIKES REGARDLESS.

but like I said, if your more around town a 9 will give you all the power you need up to about 100 mph. And really, do we need to be playing around at any higher speed?

If you like yankin the front end and mashing gears on the back tire get the xb12....the 9's do it to but you need a lil experience on one.

My 9 can wind it out at 100 plus, rock stable and loads of fun... just have to stay in 4th til ya get there and then let 5th play... otherwise, ya feel way out of the power and ya have no roll on.

'Course, none of us would EVER exceed a speed limit... ALWAYS on closed courses...........

I've had both. I've used them as commuter cycles and a fun day here and there on the twisty roads.

The more I rode 2 up with the 9, the more I wanted the 12. That is where I saw the biggest difference.

If your use to a Japanese motorcycle that revs higher than the 9 will be a natural transition.

Top speed on the two for me was only about 10 mph different and not an issue for myself.

When both are equiped w/ the race kit, or the like, that is when they perform the best I felt.

Buy both!

My 9 was lot cheaper on the insurance and close enuf on performance to the 12.

For me, top speed is the same on both 12/9.

have had 2 9's and a 12. all top out the same. i sold my stock 9 to a friend, and still have my first buell XB9R and will not be getting rid of it. it will out run most 12's. it loves to have its neck rung! as for my 12. it is a damn good bike, but i still love my 9. i will probably be selling the 12 to make some room for my 1125 here shortly. still trying to convince myself to sell anything when my 1125 shows up. lol

For those of you saying a 9 is as fast as a 12 are smoking some good stuff. You are out of your minds if you think any 9 could keep up with my 12 and I'll prove it. Come on down to South Florida.

I hear ya Beach.
Down in the flat lands of Florida the 12 would eat a 9.
Head on up this way and I'll show you what they mean by, it ain't the arrow that makes the indian.

Wolf Pen Gap, where a Nine and a Twelve are closer than some might want. I've embarrassed more than a few "faster" bikes along this stretch of pavement.
Come on up to March Badness Beach, I promise you'll have a great time. Lots of nice roads, lots of great Buellers, quite a few of them BadWeBbers. Ask anyone that's come up before, they'll tell what a great time it is.

I remember something that BudC said at a Thunderbikes meeting, "Danny would lap any of us on Road America while riding a Blast." That "Danny" is Dan Bilansky. The rider makes the bike, not the other way around. If you run alot of flats and 1/4 miles, then maybe a 9 isn't for you.

But if you have a 9, there's alot of performance you can bolt on to gain more zip. Desnorkle, open airbox, race can, ceramic coating the header, race ecm, hi-flow filter..I've noticed considerable changes by doing these.

No matter what you buy, enjoy the ride.

I've got a 9. Wouldn't trade it for an equally broken in 12 even it it didn't cost anything.

My City-X and I have a great relationship. My home base is southern NJ and her and I have ridden to Lake Placid NY, VT, NH, ME, WV, VA, MD, PA. She makes a great companion and is quite the looker with all her accessories and bags on her. Check out some of my ride reports on the Tale Section. Here she is.

Until they make a 12 that redlines higher than a John Deere, get the 9. You won't be disappointed.

I love my XB9S. I'm no racer (otherwise I would've bought an R) and this bike performs extremely well for me both commuting and riding for fun.
