Just got back from the ER at Harborview Hospital in Seattle. Lots of bruises and I am starting to get SORE!

The Civic driver was cited for failure to yield when he proceeded through the stop sign, not seeing me. I hit the rear right door at about 20-25 mph and scrambled my egg for a while.

The medic rides a GSXR600 and made sure the Joe Rocket ballistics didn't get cut up. The full-faced Shoei helmet had a major scrape along the chin and top and a nice mark where the back of my head hit the pavement. The Chippewa boots had a major gash over the steel toe.

All the gear, all the time.

I'm fading right now and need to sleep. I'm probably forgeting something. I'll check back later.

Ride safe, wear the gear.

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. Four hours of sleep and I'm on the keyboard....

I was heading south on a one-way street, in the middle lane. An SUV or pickup was in the left lane and I'm sure that is what obscured the view from the Civic driver. Apparently I gave the driver the phone number where to reach my wife. Before the police arrived he called her and was VERY apologetic. Karen and son Chris met me at the hospital some time later.

My right side is now telling me what happened. Ankle, knee, thigh, hip, elbow, ear, cheek, are all making notice that I made an impact there.

One thing I have tried to do over the past years is to avoid riding on Saturday nights, when so many people mix alcohol and driving. Not to mention a full moon.

Earlier I had adjusted the XB9S headlights higher to better be seen. So I was out for a relaxing ride. The Joe Rocket ballistic jacket is colorful with a reflective strip. I don't think that played a role in my not being seen. But it was dusk at the time of the accident.

Time to call Geico and let them know what happened. I assume they will examine the XB before it goes to the shop.

I'm sorry to hear what happened. Hope all turns out good.

Now not trying to hijack this thread but why are people so sue happy. Yes you can but why. If the driver of the civic wasn't thinking he was rice racer and it really was an accident. I understand getting your hospital bills paid, your bike fixed, and if you will loose time from work. Insurance will pay for that. But how quickly people chime in about sueing is unbelieveable. I've been in 3 accidents and 1 on purpose. All 3 i could have easily sued and won. dui, blew a redlight, failure to yeild at rotary. But the dui was a 18 kid who had 1 beer at a party .02 on the breathalizer, drunk not in my opinion. Actauuly proud of the kid for only haveing 1 at a graduation party. The light that was blown had a bad sensor so you'll wait for a long time(aka ive run it too along with many many people) and it since has been fixed on a timer.
Anyways perhaps should be in another thread but I don't believe that if an honest person makes an honest mistake he should pay for it with everything he has or will have for the next 10 years. Please do not take this the wrong way I am sorry you got hit and I know someday the shoe will be on the other foot, maybe i just miss the days where everyone was this way. Live and let live. Oh and if he was being an idiot ricer or what not then by all means teach him a lesson, but if not.... Sorry if most don't agree with my opinion but thats just me...

Talking with Geico now. They're good. The towing company has released the Buell to them to take to Downtown Harley Davidson / Buell today for inspection this week. I told Geico that the helmet and boots should be replaced. Not sure about the Joe Rocket ballistic gear. The adjuster will inspect the gear at that time. But I will go down today and snap some pictures of it and post them here.

Assuming the Civic driver was insured, and I believe that is true, then his insurance company will be responsible. I don't believe the Buell will be totaled.

Things could be a lot worse. But I'm not going to relax and just take what they give me. I'll be an active participant in the process, as much as possible. No need for a lawyer yet.

never hit but had been hit back in the navy down in charleston(going back a few years) ended up suing my own insurance company because they wouldn't leave me alone and thought that i knew what happened to the guy that hit me(a druggy off the same ship that i was on at the time) after i was transferred off the ship to limited duty in phily. i am still having problems with my leg to this day and that was over 31 years ago. what ever you decide to do, cross all your t's and dot all your i's. good luck in your recovery and be thankfull. my brother in law wasn't so lucky when a girl pulled out in front of him three years ago. DOA.

I got the police report today and the description and "artwork" of the accident scene shows that I hit the car and then went over it and landed in the middle of the intersection. My brain shut down just after I struck the Civic.

Apparently I faded in and out of consciousness and couldn't tell what my age was. All this is very scary to me.

The Civic driver is insured and so his Progressive will talk to my Geico.

The XB9S got picked up today and moved to the Buell dealer where they will give it the once and twice over and confer with the Geico adjuster. The cop and the tow truck driver both told me they thought the damage was light. I'll see it tomorrow.

Different parts of my body are beginning to tell me that they didn't like what happened. No real pain, just acute sensations. My right ankle is such that I walk with a slight limp but I think time will heal that. I see my doctor on Thursday so these questions will be answered.

Oh yeah, I'm grateful to be alive and in such good condition considering what could have been.

Prof (tylenol and ibuprofin are my friends)

That sucks, sorry to hear about the accident. A similar crash happened to me three years ago, except I was cruising at about 65 when an idiot decided to cross the highway in front of me and I t-boned him in the quarter panel, flew over the car and rolled down the highway about 75 feet or so. Totaled the bike I had at the time, My helmet struck the ground first thank god, but the tumbling caused a compound tib/fib break and a fractured shoulder with a lot of road rash. I never lost consciousness though. I'll never ride without a good jacket again. I still keep the helmet in my garage as a reminder that it saved my life. And my leg still hurts every day, the lawsuit didn't make my leg any better but it helped a little bit with my life. He was driving an Audi A6 and told the police at the scene he saw me clearly but thought he could beat me across the road and was cited with failure to yield. It always sucks to hear about another rider down, hope you come through with no lasting injuries.

Glad to hear your in good shape and nothing broken.

Atleast the guy was nice enough to stop and give the wife a call for you. I've seen and heard Bikers get hit and the driver just Takes OFF!

Have to ask..What size shirt is that? It looks big in the picture.

Boy, that point sure made itself clear, up close and personal! It was fortuitous that a nurse was first to my side. That's what I was told.

At least the guy was nice enough to stop and give the wife a call for you.
No, it turned out to be a witness who saw the tail end of my motion over the car. The report listed FOUR other witnesses. Oh, the driver said (and I quote from the report) he was: "sure there was no one there". He was a 26 year old male with two 16-ish female passengers in the car.

Have to ask..What size shirt is that? It looks big in the picture.
Hey, be nice! It was XL, but I'm not.

Kiss your wife and start looking for a nice Martin... and get your bike fixed. That's another thing to be grateful for, that I can sit down and play still having all my fingers and nerves. I almost bought a $2.5k Martin last year but decided my skill level wasn't up to the price!

Thanks again for the well-wishes. Pix of the bike later today. AttGatt

What a weak penalty. When are a-holes like this going to be cited for something more fitting, like attempted homicide or aggravated assault with a deadly weapon???

Guys, I am both:
(1) very happy at the extent of the damage, and
(2) embarrassed that it was so little for all the time in the ER and the bandwidth here.
There are other riders much worse off than I, a lucky one.

There are scratches on the front wheel and a "cosmetic" scratch at the end of swingarm, left side. The front fender was scuffed as well, but its not that obvious. Hitting the Civic at 20-25 mph sure beats doing it at 40+ !

Here are three pix:

Frame pucks are wonderful

Frame puck did its job.

Clutch lever, bent handlebar, broken mirror

Expected damage on a left side fall: lever, handlebar, mirror

I am glad it is not worse than it could have been.

Since I am local, is there anything I can help with?

Currently my bike is "supposed" to have Kevin working on it, but if DHD is really backed up maybe I can have them push mine out a couple of days to get yours in. When I took mine in they were running a 5 week backlog. Once again thanks Sturgis...

Yeah, I've got your kind in my classroom every year! They are the guys who "get" to clean the chalk and white boards and pick up litter from the room.... Usually turn out to be great kids. Makes teaching more interesting.

Thanks CM! Kevin let me take the pix above and thought the damage was slight enough to not take long. We'll see. Tony said parts could take 7-8 weeks, but probably factored in "backlog". I know that I should keep talking with them so that the summer doesn't slip by.

Oops, 7-8 days for parts. Tony said it should not take "long" to get running.

Geico's estimate came in at $803 for parts and labor. But they now await the shop guru (Rhino) to give his view.

The Rich's Custom seat was apparently ripped a little. Rich wants $250 to put new leather over but the estimate quotes $100 for a new (Buell) seat. We'll have to work that out. Any suggestions?

Also, Geico wants to know how much I paid for the helmet so they know how much to reimburse me. Time to dig out 6 year old records, I guess. Fun.

The other driver had not filed a claim, but now Progressive has the claim moving and have been really good about communicating with me. So far.

How are the sore bones today Professor?

Doesn't matter what a new seat cost unless you had a Buell seat on your bike. But you didn't. So they should pay the cost of the repair. Plain and simple. Geico is a good company, They really take care of their customers and aren't so bad to deal with in your situation. Property damage they shouldn't have any problem with replacing It's the Pain and Suffering Check your going to have to come to an agreement on with them.
Oh any damage on YOURSELF. TAKE PICTURES.
And get your own quotes I'd say atleast two other quotes from different shops.
Have that frome and front end looked over very closely for damage.
