You both got me beat but the warranty just ran out so everything up to this 20k could be considered "trouble FREE"!

I burnt up two stators using Mobil1 gear oil at 20,000 mile intervals.
Other than that I've got over 52,000 miles at the moment.

Glitch, what oil did you switch to? I use the Mobil1 currently.

And regarding this thread, I have 17k on my '04 (bought in '05 new) Lightning with no problems yet... knocking HARD on wood, for my warranty just ran out.

..count me out of the competition!

XB: 3400 miles: Oil leak from fitting on oil return line between oil pump and oil cooler. Fixed with teflon tape during oil change in my garage.

XB: 15,000 miles, Shorted speedo sensor . Fixed under extended warranty.

XB: 15,300 miles, charging system failure. Replaced stator and voltage regulator. "Fixed" under extended warranty, took a total of 4 trips to the dealership and over 90 days total! Got the bike back with a broken mirror and missing bolts on the shifter. Thanks for nothing RMHD!

XB: 18,000 miles, Shorted TPS sensor wire inside frame by velocity stack. Fixed with electrical tape and a wire tie.

XB: 18,300 miles, Charging System Dead Again. Replaced Voltage Regulator.

XB: 21,000 miles, Charging System Dead Again. Voltage regulator and Stator replaced 34 days before the expiration of the Extended Warranty. In the shop for 17 days. Counting the originals, this is Stator #3, Regulator #4. : (

Chainsaw, that sucks! I hope things get better for you. If I had a many problems as you I would have sold that POS a long time ago!

My bike has not been problem free.
I had a voltage regulator replaced before 2,000 miles. And I've had coughing/backfiring since day 1.

I stopped using Mobil 1, 75w90 and switched to Formula +, after it was rumored that the Mobil might be causing the stator problems.

I really like it when it works thou! I haven't had any trouble since the warranty expired, so far, so good.

Let me add something else to the mix.

My Buell is now drinking Syn 3 by the quart. So far it's taken 1 quart in about 1,500 miles. I switched to Syn3 at my first service and it's been eating oil ever since. Before, when it had dinosaur oil, it never used ANY oil. Awesome!

I doubt seriously it's the Syn3 that's causing your bike to use oil.
Sounds to me like either you're filling it up to high, or you have a serious problem.

I usually fill it up to the middle of the operating range. It has never been past the top of the operating range even when hot.

Other people on BuelletinBoard have the same problem - oil consumption after the switch to synthetic. If my bike has a serious problem it hasn't shown it. No power increase or decrease and it runs as it always has.

It almost seems like Buells suffer from day of the Build syndrome... All the Bikes Built on Friday are problem prone, poorly constructed garbage, and the bikes built on say, Wednesday are Kick a$$, can't break em if you tried, Troopers!

Buell's are rolling art, full of so much character and attitude, that if anyone spends a considerable amount of time around them, absolutely fall in LOVE with them... Unless you happen to be around a Friday Bike, who prefers to receive shop mechanic attention, to the twisty convoluted stretches of asphalt at breakneck speeds...
