I am putting my foot shift lever back on and I see it comes with white loctite on the new bolt. Should I also add more loctite? Any tips on how tight to make this bolt since I know making it too tight will prevent the shifter from moving freely and too loose would umm... I dunno, make it wiggle too much and hit the casing? I replaced this once before and i think I just got lucky because it never loosened up. Thanks guys.

Get the service manual.

I have the service manual and believe it or not I could find everything except any section for putting the foot shifter lever on. I ordered the manual from Daves last year.

The locktite turns white after it dries.

I used blue, and the bolt fell out last week in middle of a ride.

I used red to repair it with the hardware store parts that I will run for the next couple of weeks. I will use red next time, but I don't know what is recommended.

Are you sure that you can't snug it well, considering the collar and plastic bushings should keep it from pinching the shift lever. I can only guess at this because my bolt and collar and bushings are on the side of the road somewhere in Devils Gulch and the new parts are a week away.

Chuck,

It shouldn't need any more Loctite, but a little blue won't hurt.

This assembly has an inner steel sleeve that should be just a few thousands of an inch wider than the shifter and the two brass retainer rings that fit on the shifter, through which the sleeve passes.

Thus, when you tighten down, you are tightening against the sleeve, not the brass rings. Just snug it down tight, no magic torque amount, but I would say 20 ft lbs is about right.

A little grease on things wont do any harm either.

If tightening the bolt makes the shifter hard to shift, you want to make those brass rings just a couple thou thinner than the steel inner sleeve, so they don't bind.

(Thanks to Al from American Sport Bike for explaining this to me:-)
