Ok so I'm a bit paranoid about running out of fuel. But with good reason. Many places I ride I may not see a gas station for 20 miles and from what I read the fuel light comes on you get about 10-15 more so... I try to keep my bike fueled up all the time but last night riding home light came on. Oh yeah and it was raining to top that off. So no go fast to next station. I made it but was only able to sqeeze in 2 gallons. I thought we have like 4ish gallon tanks. Am i doing something wrong? I only fill to the top of the bottom hole. Should I be filling it right to the top of the frameso there is just enough room to push the cap in? I know on typical bikes I fill till the top of the tank but with the tank being the frame things are different. I was under the idea that the bottom hole was it. Am i wrong? Thanks Greg | ||

My 9 takes about 2.7 gallons after the light comes on, filling to the bottom hole. I'd try it one more time, in case that one particular pump was not calibrated correctly. | ||

Permagrin - just fill to the bottom hole. If will run out of your overflow tube if you go to the top hole. | ||

rated capacity of the XB9 is 14 liters or 3.7 gallons. I have heard a guy who claimed to have put in 3.4 gallons once, but my maximum fill has been 3.2 gallons. fuel light indicator is not consistent from bike to bike. mine comes on after about 2.5 gallons consumed. | ||

Or, you could swap out a Ulysses frame 4.4 gallons. | ||

I own a XB12Ss, and the most I've put in mine is 3.8 gallons, so far. every vehicle I have owned I have ran it dry, I don't expect my motorcycle to be any different, one of these days i'll end up running it empty. I usually fill mine just above the bottom rim, or until I get to an whole number on the price sign. | ||

i know for myself that my fuel light came on and i still took it another 25 miles with not issues... i was on the highway i wasnt riding hard.. ... ... at all (didnt wanna run outta gas) | ||

Yea I have done almost 30 miles with the light on, and I put in about 3.4 gallons. Also whenever I fill up, I fill so the fuel is just begining to spill over that inner hole, I figure when the bike is straight up then it will be even with the bottom of that inner hole, I have not over filled it yet. But I am still waiting to run out of gas cause I tend to wait till I got 10 miles with the light on before I start to look for a gas station | ||

each bike is different to a degree and riding style will also play a large part. I've run outta gas @ 32 miles after the light has come on but the tach never saw below 4k rpm--and have also ran out @ 39 miles running calmly around 3k rpm. what I do now know about my bike is I have at least 30 miles once the light comes on regardless of how I ride. oh, and it usually takes about 2.7 gal just after the light comes on and when it was completely empty 3.4 gallons | ||

carry a gallon plus red jug in your tank bag, it has gotten me out of several tight spots in the back woods off roads | ||

Why not just rely on your trip gauge? Whenever I fill up I reset the trip gauge. I know in the city I can go about 120miles before the light comes on. When I am out on a trip it is closer to 140 miles. Either way If I know I've got ~40 miles left on a tank, and then see "Next fuel XX miles" sign. I know wether to stop or not. After a close call at 3am in Eastern Washington, I don't take any chances. I rolled into a closed station on fumes, luckily the pumps were operational for credit card purchases.  | ||

That makes me feel so much better. I was under the impression I only had 12-15 miles after the light but appearantly I have plenty. I do use the trip meter once over 100 miles I start looking.. I usually use trip 1 for miles on fuel and trip 2 for oil change miles. Hopefully I'll never run out cause I'm probably the only person left who still doesn't have a cell but the way I see it is everyone else does soo... And if I'm not home it may just be cause I don't want that call... lol | ||

I've experienced the same as reported here. I ran out of gas once 28 miles after the light came on. Luckily I was only about 1/4 mile from the house, so I was able to push the bike home. I have also found that if you fill the bike over the bottom hole, it will dump fuel out of the overflow tube. I have also noticed that I can get more fuel in it on the kickstand than on the rear Pitbull stand without losing fuel out of the overflow. | ||

I got 32.4 miles after the light came on until mine ran dry. I won't make that mistake again as 10PM on the side of I-95 is not a fun place to be. Even after running it dry I put in less than 4 gallons and I have an Ss with the larger tank. Patrick | ||
