Well, here's the beginning of my "XB12R-STT" AKA, the Buell sport tourer.

I didn't like the light output of the stock lights from the firebolt, and did not feel like dealing with the flaking reflector material in the future. So, for about $20 more, I bought a set of the 90MM Hella lights from here:

http://www.rallylights.com/hella/90mm_modules.asp

Thanks to the Buellers that already took the plunge and did this mod.

The problem is, they don't "just fit" in to the Firebolt's lighting mounts, and are about 15MM BIGGER than the firebolt's lights.

So I machined up an adapter bracket last night/this morning. A somewhat incomplete DXF file was sent to me by another Badwebber a while back. But some of the dimensions weren't quite right IMHO. So I redesigned it a bit. I'll post a 2D print on my server sometime in the future.

Later today, I'll machine up the fairing riser brackets to raise the firebolt fairing up, so I can continue to use the XB12STT's taller handlerbars, rather than the clip-ons.

Wednesday, I pick up the rear frame rails from the powdercoater. I had them powder coated the same charcoal color as the frame.

You are making this Hella conversion all too irresistable.: )
Good job on the adapter. What did you use, 1/4 " aluminum?
Nice writeup accompanying the pix, although I didn't quite understand the deal with the installation tool and the water pipe. Also, how much did you have to cut off the adjusters?

Looking forward to the project as it progresses Steve.
Nice lights!
I like the looks of the bigger lenses as well.
Not to mention how much light you'll have while driving at night.
Are you going to wire it so both lights are on while on bright?

Steve....since you have the machining ability...any chance you might sell a fellow bueller a bracket?

I wished it was a direct replacement.

Hope the project is going well, dying to see the final project. Of course we are all just going to committ farkle hari kari if Buell builds and sells it directly as an S3 replacement

Sparky, I used 1/4" Aluminum plate. The water pipe had three 3/16" slots mill in to it to act as an installation tool.

Glitch, yes, I'll be running both lights on for the brights.

Deltablue, sorry, no. I've offered to make stuff for folks in the past for just the price of the materials alone, and had those posts deleted. Besides, I really don't have the time myself. But I will give you a 2d print that you can bring to any machine shop to have it reproduced.

Isham, I agree...

Cityxslicker, yeah, it's taking me too long to get to this point. I just hope it all works : )

Tim, it'll be done : )

Steve,i program CNC screw machines for a living.I also have the knowledge/access to a decent machining center.I utilize ACAD for all of my coordinates plotting.Could you copy me on YOUR design.I'm just weak in the designing dept.
Thanks for any consideration

And i'm amazed at the Badwebbers' solutions to a factory defect

Yup, once I make sure things are where they are supposed to be, I'll post a DXF, DWG, and PDF file of the bracket. I'm still not 100% happy with the bracket. I'm going to make another revised one this evening.

Some continued progress
http://picasaweb.google.com/mackay.steve/TTProject Continued

I don't think I'm going to raise the fairing up like I originally anticipated. There is a tab on the top triple clamp the holds the ears on the lightning, and the fairing bracket would have to be hacked a bunch to fit like I want. So for the time being, it's going to stay pretty much stock height, with the addition of a Zero Gravity ST shield.

If the ZG st screen doesn't make it before homecoming I can bring the oem solid black
screen I have in my garage for you to use, if you don't like the amber one with the red
color scheme.

Steve,
The "mock-up" looks great! I got the chin fairing installed tonight so I'll have the red one for you tomorrow along with the posts for the levers. I also got the beak installed without any problem-looks killer. I just hope I get the rest of the parts tomorrow. I may try to install the dash wings tomorrow night so I may need to borrow your T-45 bit for the ignition. I see that Brian made it by the shop. Did he say anything about my air box cover? If not I'll call him tomorrow.
Thanks,
BudC
