WHY in the HELL did I NOT buy a Buell the FIRST time I thought of buying one...the second time...the third time?... The ONLY thing I regret is NOT buying one sooner!!!
Man! what a bike! I've been out riding since 5:00 now it's after 10:00...The only reason I came in is I have to work in the morning...
The only thing I hate now is I'm so close to having to take it in for it's thousand mile service I may miss riding part of this weekend...

Glitch,
Dang bro, I think Buell marketing may be contacting you about the rights to quote your post. Damn glad you are enjoying your bike. I'm at close to 50K miles on Buells and I still feel the same way. :D

Prof...Great pics on yer site...

Jim...You'll not regret what you are going to do...And, you can always do what I did, and keep the Bandit. Although I did end up selling it, I hear the new owner is very happy.

My XB9S has been flawless since I bought it, and keeps getting better with each ride. I logged 380 miles on Sunday in the mountains of Colorado without a hicup. Though I am considering changing the handlebar postion forward & lower, like on the Firebolt, the bike fits me well & I can now say it's comfortable enough for an easy day trip. Great bike, BUELL!

I just put 1400 miles on my XB9S in four days. Blake and I traveled to Northwest Arkansas from East Texas (appx 350 miles) and found some of the best roads I've had the pleasure of carving.

The bike was flawless. I was concerned about putting that kind of mileage on such a small bike after riding a Harley for over a decade, but all went well. Wouldn't mind some highway pegs though...

We had several interesting things happen (a truck ran over Blake's keys, kamikaze birds and squirrels, etc) that we will share with you along with pictures. I plan to update my column "From Cruiser to Sport Bike - An XB9S Rider's Log by Keith Thrash..." soon covering recent changes to my bike along with equipment (Joe Rocket Revolution boots, Buell XB Tank Bag) tested on the trip.

XB9S headlights: Anyone tried to convert the headlights to two lo/hi beam units? I have a friend that changed his sockets, bulbs, etc. and is having trouble with the low beams. Was wondering if this had already been tried. I think he has connection problems that I will help him diagnose, but wanted to see if any other ideas have been tried.

It's funny, all the Buell ads either have both headlights on or both off.

As far as the lights go...
It doesn't really bother me...
But, I have put a rubber band over the "passing flasher" switch once or twice when I was playin' around...

I've been wanting to convert my XB to dual-fillament bulbs as well. Please post a writeup when you've worked out the kinks.

I just took the switch apart and soldered the wires together, so its like your holding the high beam flash button on. no problems yet...
I just think it looks so much better with both on.. I had to aim them down a little so I wasn't blinding everyone.

Misato,

So you just have the stock hi/lo beams on all the time,or did you swap in dual-filament bulbs?

Misato:

How did you clean up your tail section? Did you have to cut the housing? I looked at your website, but cannot tell. Did you repaint the tail black? It doesn't look like the factory gray.

A follow up to the original post...

I finally got to demo the R this past Saturday. What a difference in riding!

My buddy and I took out a Lightning and Firebolt (unsupervised [I don't know how normal this is, but it shocked the hell out of me]). As I didn't remember the area all that well, I took it easy on my ride.

First thoughts...the clip ons were too extreme for me. I need them raised about an inch and a half to be remotely comfortable (for me). And the pegs would need to be swapped out with the S ones. Other than that, this bike was the biz.

On the Bandit, I need to plan my move ahead of time, start my turn (say, around a pot hole) and, if I judged it correctly, I will be able to swerve with plenty of clearance. The Firebolt reacts to my thought and makes the turn no problem.

With no chaperone, I was able to get it above 5 grand. Wow, this bike had pull. Not like the bandit, but it was an enjoyable rush (like I told the sales rep, the Bandit has plenty of pull, but I am rarely above 7500 on the tach, so I'm never using the engine to it's full capacity, and the fun stuff starts aroud 4000, so I am already playing with a 3500 range anyway). The XB's would let me play up and down the tach all day .

When we hit a light, I looked at my buddy, and all I could see was the huge grin under his helmet (yes, I could see the grin). While he has decided he is happy with his Rex, I can definitely see swapping bikes with him if I take the financial plunge to get one.

But which one? I dunno, if there were risers for the 'bolt, it would come down to aesthetics, but I think as it stands now. I would be happier on the Lightning. But I would need to get the 'bolt rear end on it to make it an XB9 Cyclone, just to be different.

It's really fun to re-learn your favorite roads.
The Bandit and the XB are two different animals all together.

I just test rode the Firebolt. Dang! Whoo!
Much more "civilized" than my '01 M2, less vibration, smoother shifting, not as much low end grunt, but revs even faster, quicker. It's hard to believe a bike that out handles a M2, but the Firebolt does. I am really impressed.

When I got back to the dealer (cycle stop brighton NY ) the salesman who put on the plates had gone to lunch, the other salesguy said "you had the Firebolt?? I just sold that!" lol

I would need the "s" pegs to be really comfortable, and "s" bars or higher clipons might be nice too. I'm not trading in the M2L, But I Would tell you to try one out.

Nice work, Erik & crew!

Good job! That would be a nice bike...The best of both worlds.
*Ya reckon this to be what's in store for '04?*
Now all we have to do is find some one that doesn't want their subframe or rear plastic...
With that set up I could even carry a cell phone!

I could see that along with a single headlight set up, a little more traditional...just to make it more of a JOAT.

LOL...I actually want to do the opposite, put a 9S tail section on my 9R. It would actually be the easier of the two, since a Firebolt's electronics are all under the front fairing, while a Lightning's under the tail. You might not have room for all that in an XB9R tail section.
