I'll have pictures on here soon, like by Monday evening. Start the drooling now, as well an the flames... "Blah, blah, blah, you've thinned the walls of the gas tank. Blah, blah, blah, you've weakened the structure. Blah, blah, blah, You smoothed the welds on the outside of the frame. Blah, blah, blah, you've voided the warranty."

I've done countless wheelies, stoppies, and about 3000 miles since I did it (myself) so save the whining or I'll come rev the open-piped thing in your neighborhood late at night. It's not for you? ...that's why it's MINE. No fuel leaks, no different handling, just a totally different look. Turned out better than I even hoped it would.

HAHAHAHA Thats great!!!
Can't wait to see a pic but a word of warning get your frame magnafluxed for good measure. Blah, blah, blah, I know youve done stopies, wheelies ETC... most failures don't happen right away.

Off the soap box now.

Still can't wait to see pics.

Can't wait to see your pics. I would love to know the details of the process you used to do it too. I would love to see it in person next time you are in Austin. Are you going to the R.O.T rally in May? Doesn't look like they are having the battletrax there this year.

What about... blah, blah, blah... you've fashioned your Buell into a deadly solar reflective weapon. ;) Should enable you to melt the plastic off an R6. All you need is an articulating joint on your tail pipe so you can aim it as well.

Ever drive by the Merril Lynch buildings (twin ~30 story glass towers with reflective gold plating) on Central Expressway in Dallas in the late afternoon? Ouch.

Now that you have your XB9 all BLINGed up, how about some nice gold anodizing for the finishing touch? ;)

I use Testor's Flourescent(sp?) yellow paint on the tires. I gotta redo it about once every 2 weeks of hard riding. The aluminum really doesn't require that much maintenance, I polished it on President's day weekend so I've lived with it a little while. I guess it depends on your frame of reference on how often you cleaned it before.

Very nice, off the Buell topic for a second are the bead locks on the T J real or fake?

Justin, the beadlocks are genuine, and a genuine pain in the ass! They leak and are way difficult to balance. I think they were made with swampers in mind, which have a much thicker sidewall, therefore they would pinch it harder and seal better.

Your X1 is way nice.

get your frame magnafluxed for good measure.

Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal an will not magnaflux, it ca be Zyglo tested for cracks or sonic tested for thickness.

Polised frame looks nice, now paint the body parts a dark color to show it off. The inside of your pant legs will do a wonderful job of polishing the frame as you ride and also become black in the process. Experience gained from riding BSA's with alloy tanks in my previous life.

With the polished frame and swingarm, it is SCREAMING for all Carbon Fiber bodywork!!! Just my thought about the perfect XB. Oh...I forgot to mention the XB motor enlarged to 1200 cc's...then it would be a perfect XB.

I'm gonna get the pipe chromed. I made it from 2 & 1/2" mandrel bent steel. I'm waiting to make sure the mounting tab weld is going to hold first, and I'm thinking of adding another pipe on the right side, too.

Hey Dynarider, adding another 2 & 1/2" pipe on the right, a mirror image of the left will make the sound more tinny, right? I would prefer the deeper sound of a smaller diameter, but like the top-end rush the way it is. What do you think?

The whole polishing (epic) job took about 40 hrs, but this was my first time and could probably do it again in about 25. I used a sandpaper flap disk to remove the finish and smooth the welds, and did the rest with about 950 (ok, I don't know many exactly, but a LOT!) squares of sandpaper, starting coarse and working my way to 1000 or 1500 grit, then a cloth polishing wheel on a handheld grinder.

I think the way you have it now with the 2 into 1 open pipe is the way to go. With 2 open pipes that short of length you would lose quite a bit of torque.

Ahg! Manbreasts!

Sherm,
I'd strongly suggest forgoing ANY welded tabs on your tailpipe. Instead use a collar type clamp made of 1/8" thick x 3/4" wide chromed steel as follows...

indestructable tailpipe clamp/hanger

Connect to hard point (tranny lug) via 3/16" thick x 1" wide appropriately bent/twisted chromed steel bar.

Rick & Blake,

The open pipe seems to take a (very) little away below 3000rpm, but maybe adds a little above that. I never thought of myself as a loud bike kind of guy, but damn if I don't enjoy all the double takes I get. Loud Harleys are common in central Texas, and I see most people kind of dismiss it as I approach, then they have to look twice and stare to wrap their mind around that huge sound coming from my little sportbike.

Blake, I've read all the nightmares about tabs breaking off, but I want the clean look of no strap. If this proves impossible, I may have to use your method. Thanks.

I notice that you sanded out the weld lines on the upper part of the frame. I've always wondered why they were there in teh first place. What risks (if any) are you taking by eliminating them?

ANYONE WANT ME TO POLISH THEIR SWINGARM???

I have a spare and can shine it up nicely, exchanging it for yours with minimum downtime. I could also do your frame, but would of course have to have the bike.
