After using our Drummer catch can for a couple of years I took a close look at the design and decided to change and improve it using SolidWorks. The new design has a slightly larger volume and a new baffling system to stop the water and muck laden crankcase vapor from short circuiting from the inlet port to the exhaust port. The blow by is forced to travel down one side and up the other to help condense the snot out. The bottom is redesigned to better remove all of the water/oil mix when the drain is opened. The sealing is also improved with the addition of 2 additional “O” rings around the lid’s screws.
I broke into production this week between parts for the M1A1 Abrams tank and Apache helicopter and had 25 assemblies machined. All the other fittings, screws, hoses, and etc. are on hand as well. The parts have to be sent out for black anodizing and then be assembled. They should be ready in a week or so. We are going to hold the price for the catch can at the current $160 + $10 S&H for a complete kit including everything you need for a complete install including detailed instructions.
Gold anodizing is possible but the minimum setup charge for anodizing is $130. If enough guys want it I would divide up the extra cost between them. I don’t know if the gold would match the Buell wheels or not.

probably most of the people that have rerouted their crank case breather hoses or want to i would assume, since thats what its for. then there are the people that have already bought one, apparently they wanted one too

I have the original model. Is there anyway I could get one that hasn't been anodized yet? I think the machined finish looks so much better.

Kevin,
I would like to get one asap. You said that you didn't have any made yet and those look sweet. How soon before I can snag one. Will e-mail you as well.

Thanks, Jo

Hey Jerseyguy - what if you have a previous model Drummer catch can kit? Will you sell the newly updated can on its own, w/o the rest of the kit pieces at a discounted price? Or is it even possible to hook up the new can to the old kits plumbing? Does it also mount in the same location as the previous model? The old catch can looks like a factory piece, so I can only imagine the new model looks just as good!

Thanks for the feedback!

Have you guys ever done dynoruns on the so called "open air box solution" yourself?

I have. Why do the guys in Germany dont use it?

This is an utterly unnecessary part for a standard XB/open airbox which most of the people ride.

Keep the breather hoses where they are and run the bike with a big K&N and e.g. the Trojan Hose lid................

Anyway I have to admit one thing.................yes the catch can is a solution for a self inflicted problem

Isn't that mod worth about 3 to 4 HP and why would you want water vapor running back into your motor? EPA crap....

OK guys,
well I didn't have any made yet, but they're made now....email jerseyguy if you want a catchcan, he'll have them ready for shipment very soon...
Fravel,
the pulley covers are next to be finished...just had to agree on a design for the shape that we used, it's simple but effective, and very affordable....we run Pirelli tires on our racebike because they made more power on the dyno than the Michelins..

Nasty, I can hold one back from anodizing but you need to let me know for sure today as they are going out.

Bosox - It mounts similarly and you can use the old hoses & fittings no problem. You'll only save $15 though so I don't know if it's worth it.

hi.................Wolfridgerider here is my take on your questions

1. Isn't that mod worth about 3 to 4 HP

...........use the K&N air filter and holes in the airbox or the lid and it works as well on a stock XB 12.

2. and why would you want water vapor running back into your motor?

...........please excuse but this really makes me laugh.......so you stop riding in the rain or when humidity is high to prevent moisture laden air to get into your airintake? Guess not!!!!!!!!! I am sorry I forgot there is even a bit of oil vapor mixed in...this just gets burned!!!!!!!!!.........this whole idea is so strange that I can not believe that people go through all this trouble. I have ridden with a FAST for two years with little K&N Filters at the end of the breather hoses and no probs

Since doing the Dynotesting with various configurations I have removed the FAST and put the standard stuff back in with a big K&N Filter. The real restriction is the airbox lid........everything else is cosmetics and bragg

Eric Buell is very cool chap and the people he works with aint stupid.

I am thinking about doing some track days and would like to know if a catch can will be needed and if the fuel tank vent will need to be run to the catch can as well?

Wolf, A fuel tank vent is not run to the catch can. As far as needing it for a track day goes, I don't think you'd notice the difference (I don't). You'd be better off putting your efforts into sharpening your riding skills and some good riding gear if a track day is your focus.

Some folks like catch cans & some don't. I've seen it claimed that there is a small HP gain but I've not proved it myself. I do take some comfort out of draining a shot glass full of snot out of mine after a half hour ride though. To each his own. There's no need to belittle some one else's opinion.

Right now I have it puking out under the footpeg, and I know it doesn't hurt not having it go back into the motor. Are you or Kevin going to MB4?

Can someone explain to me how a catch can can possible add horespower?

I must be insanely retarded to not see this.

And BTW - seems to me that a catch can isn't going to hold much more than that "shot glass full of snot", so is it safe to assume that anything longer than a 30 minute ride will result in burning that stuff anyways?

I don't think the catch can does a thing but catch. Its not letting the crankcase vent back into the motor that adds HP. Once you see the oil/water/milk mix that would have went back into the motor it can only help to send it someplace else..... so I'm told.

These catch cans WORK....

That's all there is too it PERIOD!

I was probably the first to get one of these over a year ago, and it does keep CRAP from going into the intake and polluting the fuel/air charge...
I belong also to the corvette/Impala SS forums as well and this is one of the FIRST mods to do on the Corvettes as well
Better throttle response etc.etc keeps carbon from forming on Throttle shaft/VAlves,as far as HP gains who knows if its worth say 2 horsepower but better performance throughout all with other mods combined ya can`t go wrong ... I got like 15,000 miles on mine now since the install and I know I have to drain mine a fair bit so if it stops all the sludge from happening etc etc. Why would ya question it... All the guys with High Performance Vettes / Impala Ss can`t be wrong...!

Each to their own!

hi..........I gather you have also fitted one of these aftermarket breather valves................which are equally useful for the XB............dont worry at least you can empty this can and feel good about it.

Have fun

Myself, I don`t use any aftermarket breathers .. Mine goes from the can to an open 5/8 clear hose that goes up from the can about 8 inches and bends down to vent so I don`t have to bother with a filter if that's what ya mean?

hi..................there are people who beleive that the original valve which controls the vacuum in the XB crank case is not good enough.....sensible people from this forum have testet this and shown that these aftermarket products do not give any advantage.
The catch can may be useful for the tubeframers (they do not have the valve), but the XB has a pretty clean running engine...............so I am sorry, but I disagree.

This catch can is not needed and does not offer any advantage over the standard airbox baseplate and the stuff going into the intake.
Do the Dynos and see for yourself.

Let me put it in plain words.........stop messing up a good solution for the airintake that create problems that need cans................and one more thing in case this argument is mentioned.......... there are different requirements in a race bike
1. space
2. weight
3. simplicity................thats why they use bottles for the job

I used small K&Filters at the ends of the original breather tubes with my FAST. I have put grommets into the thermo matt and the breathers sit in the same position as in the original (oh my god...........here the stuff really flows back into the engine.....and I have not found any probs with that either..........again this is not as good as what Eric and his guys have build as stock............)

I gather I have now exhausted the subject
