I've been looking, but I haven't seen it again. Barb's Harley Davidson is our closest dealer, and they're having a big Buell party in two weeks, so I'm thinking I'll have a good chance of seeing it (or at least talking to someone who knows more about it).

More Gears!
Does anyone else long for 6th gear when the pace picks up beyond "normal" ? Even more space between 4th and 5th. I don't like the idea of running the engine at 5k+ rpm for miles and miles to keep up with my R1 and 954 riding buds on the open road.

5k *IS* the sweet spot but I didn't want to make an 80 mile run down the interstate at a constant 5k rpm. Am I being to gentle on my bolt?

Has anyone thought about a bigger rear fender on the XB? Just wondering what a larger one like the M2 or X1 would look like. All the little stock one does is catch stones. I saw ASB has a carbon fiber one but it looks the same size. Just wondering

I would LOVE to have a real rear hugger option for the XBs. I'm constantly flipping dirt and road grime up on the back of the bike, which sucks.

I've been mulling different solutions, but haven't come up with anything I could build myself and would be very willing to pay $$ for a decent solution.

I don't know if you are "being too gentle" on your... uh... "bolt." There are probably other more appropriate online forums for that kind of discussion. :joker:

Seriously though, running at 5 grand for any amount of time shouldn't even phase your 9R's engine. It was built with that kind of duty in mind... shorter stroke, forced air cooling, increased oil capacity, oil cooler, improved crankcase breather system.

Wanting to modify your final drive ratio is certainly a valid and popular thing to do though. I'm surprised that someone doesn't already offer sets of final drive sprockets that provide different ratios than stock... a sprocket set having one more tooth in front with one less in back, two more teeth in front with two less in back may allow use of the stock belt and idler pulley, though it would tend to reduce tension in the belt a little. Belt tension would be diminished in such a scenario since the belt engages a greater percentage of the rear sprocket, which is getting smaller, versus the front, which is getting larger. There may be an issue of the belt interfering/rubbing the fully enclosing belt guard if the sprocket sizes deviate too much from stock.

If the new sprocket sizes are not compatible with the stock belt, then one might get away with swapping the stock idler pulley for one with a compatible diameter, and/or the stock belt for one with an appropriate number of teeth.

Has anyone had any problems with the front brake on the XB. Mine has about 6400 miles, and has a bad vibration during hard braking. I am assuming that it has something to do with the drive bushing or drive bushing washer. I asked my dealer about it and I just got a blank stair and "we've never heard of that". Any help/input/advice would be great.

I think, I have a similar problem. ( 6500 myl )
Cant lay my finger on it , but with medium or hard braking. Feels like my old endfield with a worn out drumbrake.
There’s a juter in the front, the service department blamed the front tyre because it was really badly worn. So the replaced the front tyre & brake pads.
And it was gone for a 150 km.
Or it’s warped or there some burned spots on it with a friction difference.
I’m gonna try to clock the warp on it.

My S1 has seen 7K fairly often. Doesn't seem to have hurt that old lump any. I'm sure your sportier mill is just fine. Hell, I went 1500 miles with her humming along at around 4.5-5K+. Didn't skip a beat.

Valve/Bud,

Warped rotor?

If you don't have something to check the runout on the rotor try this:

Find a hill and coast down it slowly and apply the front brake gently enough that the bike doesn't stop. If you feel a pulse in the front brake lever the rotor is likely warped.

Thanx Greg, I will give that a try tomorrow. It is finally suppose to be nice for once here in NH. I did check the pads the other day and they looked good. I hope to figure this out soon, it is a bummer to ride in this condition.

See the Quick Board thread: Warped front rotor on XB9R Firebolt? It's down the list a bit. Check the front rotor, but also check the runnout of the wheel. I'll bet the front wheel is slightly distorted, causing the runout and vibration. That was the problem on mine. Keep the posts on this subject in that thread, and let us know what you find!

Hi Jody,
They are on there with double sided tape. Just grab a hold of one side and pry them off with your fingers. I wouldn't suggest using anything hard to pry them off, you might damage the finish on the forks. After you get the plastic part off, some of the double sided tape or it's residue might be left behind but it isn't too difficult to remove. I just patiently rubbed it off with my thumb a little at a time and then used rubbing alchohol to get thae last bit of gunk off. I wouldn't use any harsh or strong chemicals here either. The mirrors work well in this location. Better than stock IMO. They are Napoleons, I got them at a local motorcycle supply store.

I got the blinkers there as well. The brand is K&S, Part # 25-8341. Description would be "flush mount marker lights"

Lockhart Phillips has some that are very similar as well.

I'm sure any of the vendors who support BadWeb could get you these parts pretty easily.

Heat the reflectors up with a hairdryer or heat gun. Should be able to get them off very easily with minimal adhesive residue. WD-40 and rubbing alcohol will work to get any leftover adhesive off the forks.
