Have any of you guys seen this? New French motorcycle using American S&S V-twin. they're just getting their company started it seems. Looks pretty cool I think. You sit on the fuel tank. I like the air intake a lot. Cool. Really, really expensive right now though. 115 hp/115 ft. lbs. About the same chassis geometry as a Long Ss... 54" wheelbase, 22 degree fork angle. 390 lbs., dry I think. Pictured is a race version in a very nice blue. Check out their website. http://www.engmore.com

115 HP @ 6250 rpm at the wheel. Max torque @ 4250 rpm. 46mm fork (I thought those forks looked pretty thick). Oil carried in backbone frame. Same weight distribution as an XB... 52%/48% front/rear.

No!... The U.S. is supposed to be one of the first markets! They haven't built many yet, but it is ready for production from what I have read about it. Right now, they are extremely and terribly expensive... about 35K dollars! If they catch on, the price should come down quite considerably I would think.

It looks like an awesome bike. Too bad it's French.... I wouldn't buy it because of that fact even if it had 200 hp, got 100 mpg, had a 10 yr warranty, and cost $1000.

Damn my politics

Yeah I know... damn French! I thought the same thing... but... it's a motorcycle and I like motorcycles, no matter what. I do have my favorites and preferences... BUELL! It is a beautiful design and it does have an American engine... that is enough for me. I will consider it for those reasons, even though it is French... Haha.

There have been several threads about the Wakans.

They seem to pop up about once or twice a month or so for the past 4-5 months.

Looks kewl. I'm not a fan of the intake myself though. As far as the French. I don't know any of them so I can't comment on that.

The French have enormous problems with their growing Muslim population. France is expected to become a majority Islamic country in less than 25 years. As much as 20-30% of their citizens under 25 are Muslim and they are not assimilating into French culture. Furthermore, these are the so-called radicalized Muslims, not the peace loving types. So, yea, the French can bail themselves out this go-round. Sorry for the thread jacking!!

This page has shot of the backbone frame:

http://www.engmore.com/design.html

It looks like they are hanging that engine from the cylinder heads much like the tubers did.

The oil is in the frame, they look wonderful as seen above. That is one of the racing models and is not cluttered up with things like mufflers and batteries.

Here is a look at the road models, a little less alluring to me:

http://www.engmore.com/roadmodels.html

For that kind of money I'd buy four or five Buells.

Interesting bike. There was a thread not long ago about a possible Victory sport bike... if they were to build one of their own, I would expect it to look something like this. It's curves remind me of a chopper for some reason. Very nice!

Very cool bike, but 35K? I just read about the new version of the Bimota Tesi in Cycle World. Super cool but 60K? I bitch about the poor re-sale value of Buells, but I have to think "what a great value in a cutting edge sport bike." I love my Ulysess more all the time. Especially when I see prices like these. I wish the XBs could show off more of the engine like the tubers did and like the Wakan does beautifully, but it would'nt be a XB then. I paid retail for my Uly but still got a lot of bike for the money.

The Victory engine is so tall I really wonder if it will lend itself to much of a sport bike application.

I think that is one of the things that detracts from the Victory cruiser a little too. Not just looks, the CG is a little high for their weight.

Arnold Cycle Design, who are responsible for the T-Bob Ducati, have just recently completed a lovely Victory based custom. Unfortunately their website doesn't show it yet.

Stand by.

Rocket, I'm soooo sorry that it has taken me this long to answer your thoughtful comment. I'm amazed that in the few lines I'd written, you were able to both analyze my character and label me as a bigot. How insightful.

Your rapid diagnosis of my dreadful state has given me pause. Maybe I should meditate and spend time soul searching to determine the root cause of my hideous affliction. Hmmm.....

Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Main Entry: big·ot
Pronunciation: 'bi-g&t
Function: noun
Etymology: French, hypocrite, bigot
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

Wow... you're right, according to the first definition I may be a bigot. I do have opinions and I've been known to be obstinate about them. I don't however believe that the French people are considered either a race or ethnic group OR that anything I posted resembled hatred or intolerance.

Since the word is most often associated with racial prejudice, it is perhaps one of the most filthy and damning labels a person can have. I appreciate you putting me in the same category with Jesse Helms, Spike Lee, Adolph Hitler, John Rocker, Archie Bunker, and James Earl Ray. Label me a bigot and you can automatically feel so happy about yourself because you are so enlightened and not one of those nasty subhuman bigots. Give yourself a big hug.

I would not buy this bike based on my political views. There are other countries I would not buy a bike from. North Korea, Iran, and Cuba come to mind. As a matter of fact I would not buy ANY merchandise from those countries. Since I am not a citizen of any of these countries I have no voice whatsoever in the political direction these countries decide to go in. I do however have control over where my money goes and it will not go to one of the most socialist anti-American governments on the face of the planet.

You, Rocket, do not have to agree with my choice. As I matter of fact I don't give a rat's a$$ if you agree with it. I do however take offense at how quickly you choose to label me. Have a great day Rocket, hope you can find some more people to insult.

The Wakan wasn't built by France. It was built by a person, or persons, who I'd guess are motorcycle enthusiasts.

What that has to do with politics I don't quite get.

Hmmm...Buell ZTL Wheels..Made in China

We live in a global economy and I think that, unless you are entirely self sufficient, you will be buying goods from coutries you have probably never heard of, let alone agrre with their politics.

The Wakan engine is made in the US by the way.

I contacted Wakan and offered to race one in UK Thunderbikes next year ;) I wait with bated breath : )

GEeeez folks - get over your badselves.

Wakan - It's a piece of hardware made by motorcycle enthusiasts.

That's more than I can say about my chinese cast aluminum wheels that I have on my XB racebike!

If you want to boycott something, do it in a way that makes a difference.

Doubt that NOT buying a Wakan is going to send a clear message to the French Government.

I'm with you on not appreciating some of the French actions in the past - but I'm mostly talking Gaullist French. Charles DeGaulle was a true Chauvinist in the classic sense of the word. Doesn't mean that I refuse to use Bernaise sauce on a cut of beef.

Slaughter and Trojan:}
Yes, you are correct. However, I'm not boycotting to send a clear message I just have no desire to help the economy of France. And I have thousands of other nice bikes to buy that aren't made in France.

Chinese wheels is more an issue of alternatives. Good luck NOT buying Chinese products. I'm not stupid enough to believe we should be isolationist and I'm not anti-globilization. On the other hand, if there are reasonable alternatives I wouldn't choose to buy chinese either. If England made ZTL wheels that were reasonably priced then YES I would buy the English wheels over the Chinese wheels. That alternative does not exist.

Thank you for the courtesy to actually discuss this. We don't all have to agree and I understand your viewpoints. I appreciate your ability to state our differences while still being civil. Maybe others (myself included) could learn the same tact. Have a great day.

Rocket:
What that has to do with politics I don't quite get. - so I guess your response to not getting something is to immediately label the person a bigot. If you can't grasp the concept of making economic decisions based on political beliefs I'm sorry I can't help you. Maybe you should just stay with the strategy of labeling anyone you disagree with or don't understand. Others on this post who disagreed with me had the courtesy to state their reasons and open debate on the subject.

I'm sure there are motorcycle enthusiast in France. That's great. I don't believe I said anything disparaging against the people of Wakan or the bike. It does look awesome. It's just too bad they don't make it in England.
