Hey hey JL! Yeah...Sammie said I should have just brought dead roses home! Yep, I think Rich, Lafayette and I are three of the oddballs in FL that actually do wear a helmet and not the stylish swim trunks and flip flops seen on most fashionable sportbike riders here in Florida.

It seems like most of you guys are stuck with the bill. I noticed Skyguy dumped his bike to try to avoid the crash, and got stuck with the bill. That sucks. But at least he's alive and paying the bill instead of dead and the other driver pays.

Are most of you guys carrying insurance? I know here in Washington state insurance isn't required on a motorcycle but I thought I would be a fool not to carry it for myself, so I'm insured. I haven't read the fine print but I'd be surprised if I was covered on the track. I guess what I'm wondering is if your insurance is weasiling out of the bill (if so who), is the accident exceeding the coverage, or are you carrying insurance at all?

The other thing I would like to open up is this: Would you guys buy the same helmets again after you crashed in them? Do you feel like the helmet performed as expected or would you spend the dough on a higher end helmet?

Great comments. This threads already a mile long.

Wore arai then, wear Arai now. It's hard to argue with success.

The way I hit and I am not dead.... I would say my lid did its job for sure. I couldn't find an HJC so I found a sweet deal on a KBC at Cycle gear and it actually seems like it may be more comfortable than my last one.

Brian: did you have any issues getting back on after that? I have had the parts for weeks now and find myself changing one of something every other week or so. I bought new gear but now am having some very mixed up feelings about getting back in the saddle.

LOL! When I went saw the medical staff at the track, I made it a point to tell them not to cut off my gloves. Thumbs heal, $200 gloves don't.

It's funny, with my injuries m gear was intact. The paramedics carefully removed mine, one of them must be a rider.

My wife, that had cracked vertebrae and broken ribs had every piece of her gear cut off of her.

I had no issues getting back on the bike, in fact it was a driving goal for me.

I had a long wait to get all the paperwork straight and shifter installed etc. before I could ride it, not to mention the year
of waiting before the settlement payed out so I could afford it.

Take it easy Vegas, if riding is still one of your passions then you'll get the urge to get back in the saddle. If not, that's
OK too. People have given up riding for far worse reasons. If your heart isn't in it any more then there really isn't any point
and if it is well then saddle up! Either way we're here for you man.

Vegas - If you don't want to, there isn't any point in doing it. If you miss it, then there is.

We won't give you a hard time if you decide you don't want to ride anymore. Of course we still expect you to host the anual Daytona gathering.

I took a swan dive into the pavement after a highside and came out fairly lucky - sprained neck, broken ribs, broken ankle, concussion. A friend of mine drove me to the hospital so I didn't have an ambulance ride (I always wanted one, though, sirens and all...), and the hospital bill wasn't too bad, but I never did get a total on it. I think it came to $2400.

The problem with my visit to the emergency room was my healthcare provider, United Healthcare. They fought for years to weasel out of providing coverage for this accident and we almost went to arbitration before they caved and paid. They quibbled over everything... it took three years before they would pay for the X-rays.

Screw you, United Healthcare.

It's not a loss of passion at all... I yearn for it to say the least. My issue is more being "gun shy". I cringe at every intersection when I am in the truck with Sammie. I think it could be more fear of the "what if" again. Maybe that could makeme a better rider someday.

And don't worry.... we are already making plans for March!

You could sign up for a riders edge or MSF refresher course to ease in under controlled conditions.
