I am seriously considering removing my passenger footpeg brackets. The only thing I am wondering is if this would make the bike more or less prone to damage should a minor spill or tipover occur.
At first I thought they may offer some protection to the sides of the rear plastic but the more I look at them the more think they may actually cause damage due to bending or snapping.
Has anyone found an increase in rock chip damage to the undertail section due to them being removed?
Any insight or personal experience would be appreciated!

When I lowsided there was a very minor scratch on the rear section,Don't think pegs would have helped at all.
If ya take yours off I'll buy em.

my pass' brackets seem like they did help save the but end when my 12s went down on the left. the shift lever and both pegs were the only things damaged behind the frame pucks and scoops.

p.s. i get a little queezy any time i see an xb without the pucks. they saved everything. as it was there was less than $400 damage.

When I went down the passenger bracket whacked into the swingarm bracket and snapped it in half.

I didn't have frame pucks at the time though.

Ouch, but at least the swingarm brace is a bolt on piece, and replaceable.

In most gentler low sides there has been a fair bit of anecdotal evidence that they help keep the swingarm from getting scraped
as badly, whether it holds up under scrutiny I don't know. Wy wife and son would have a fit if I removed mine.

Snapped that swingarm brace like a toothpick I see. Makes me have second thoughts about having my passenger peg mounts on my Bolt. I'll have to weigh the options on removing them. My better half rides here own Buell anyhow, so no need for them really.

Thanks for the input!!
Welp,
I went ahead and took them off. Since I have the DHM spool sliders for the swingarm hopefully what little protection the brackets might provide will be covered by them. I will say that after seeing that swingarm brace broken by them I would much rather risk having to replace the rear plastics instead!

I took mine off my 12Ss. Looks much better, but it looks like the seat rail will be wide open to damage in a slide (I already have the dark Horse Moto swingarm sliders and the Buell frame pucks).

I've already talked to Keith at Dark Horse about a slider that can bolt into the seat rail in place of the passenger brackets, and he seemed to like the idea. If it works out, it'll even have another tie down anchor built in. ;)
