I found a race kit for my '03 XB9S. How many hours of labor can I expect to have the kit installed by a HD/Buell dealer?

depends on how spendy you look when you walk in the door..how much ya' got?? just kidding

I think, might be wrong, but I think it's about 2 or 3 hours...no that doesn't mean it really truly takes that long...but they have a set number of hours for each specific job.

When I asked Rocket HD here in Huntsville, they quoted me about 2.5 hours, including TPS reset.

If you have simple hand tools the only thing you need the dealer to do is the tps reset.

Swapping the pipe will take less than an hour. Changing the filter is just a few minutes.
while you're in there just pull out the snorkel (if you haven't already) and the ECM
is under your seat on the lightning. That's just a few minutes as well.

If you swap everything else yourself, and ride to the dealership on the stock ECM, make
the ECM swap in the parking lot and have them do the tps reset you should be on the road in
about 15 minutes.

You'll be paying them for at least 2 hours of labor if not more to do the job.

I second that - it is a very easy job. Working on a Buell kicks a$$!!! My old Suzuki ran more consistent (albeit w/ only 40 hp), but what a bit$% to work on!

Do the above, I paid about 45-50$ for the dealer to do the ECM swap and a TPS Reset.

When working on the bike I think you develope a deeper bond with the machine, and it gives you more knowledge of the bike. Took me a few hours (2-4) to do the pipe/air filter/1K service, and it saved me upwards of 300$, well worth the effort.

Precbsled it's not how many hours they will charge, but how many weeks you have to wait to get it in and then how many days/weeks to get it back. It's a pretty easy swap. I am not very mechanically inclined but I have done a couple of swaps on my XB. BTW, I live in Gaithersburg and could help you if you need. I also have the VDSTS software to reset TPS but have not used it yet. Maybe you could be the guinea pig?

Mio

PM me if you need some help.

there may be someone in your area who has the software to do the tps reset for you. If you were closer to Houston I would help you with the complete swap including free tps reset. Look back in the archives. there was a thread a few weeks ago where fellow Buellers were offering this.

If you know how to use your computer and can get it close to your motorcycle get the Technoresearch Vehicle Diagnostic Scan-Tool Software from Al or Daves about $200. It's a great tool for TPS reset and analysing spark advance.

The more I work on my XB9R I realize things are just easier than I thought before to work on.

Prices fluxuate for used Race ECMs. There are many alternatives to them. Cost around $200 or so (others will correct me with more accurate data).
