Thats the type of Uly I have wanted from day one! A bigger cityX with a 12 in it! The only thing left to do to that bike is get rid of the Dunlops and It will be ready to go! I would have went with the cherry bomb plastics w/ cherry bomb wheels! | ||

From the other side you can see the reverso exhaust that has the outlet at the front of the bike. It's a sweet piece of work Matt! | ||

Matt, why did you guys feel the need to do away with the stock Buell wheels and brakes? Not being critical, just curious. | ||

Hi Indy, The rear wheel is still a stock Buell item with a Braking disc fitted, although the front is changed (Braking forged aluminium R1 fitment). The reason for the change are various, but mostly: When we raced in 2002/2003 we had all sorts of problems with the ZTL brakes overheating and fading on our UK short circuits. We tried various combinations of pads, fluid and rotors, including some special ones from the factory race shop, but still had serious braking issues with them and found it hard to get more than 4 laps out of the front brake before it faded away to nothing or destroyed the pads. Our circuits in the UK are all pretty short with lots of chicanes and hard braking areas that are hard on brakes anyway, so we eventually changed to twin discs to get around this and it worked for us. For this year we faced the same problem, and as the ZTL 8 piston caliper wasn't available to us we decided to go down the route of a complete R1 front end including brakes. These were available cheaply on ebay and are well proven and tested. Also, as we were using the Ulysses as a base we needed to change the forks and shock anyway and it is easier to get parts etc here in the UK for these than it is for the Buell parts. With the forged wheel and wave discs the unsprung weight is slightly more than the ZTL setup but braking is superb. Overall race weight of the bike is much lower than a stock Firebolt. Phil Read has ridden everything from full on Superbikes to 250GP bikes and reckons they are one of the best brake packages he has ever used, so we are happy | ||

We haven't raced since 10 June as Phil had to miss the last meeting because of pre-booked comittments. We are in action this weekend coming though at Brands Hatch for round 6 of the Thunderbike series. We are hoping to get some good results here after our encouraging meeting at Snetterton last time out with 5th & 6th places. Since the last meeting we have been busy with some updates, including getting the Rapidbike ECU back to Italy for some modifications and upgrades and fitting slightly narrower header pipes more suited to our engine characteristics. We will also have a new rear shock for this weekend being brought over specially from Holland by AST. This features the reservoir attached to the lower shock mount, with the shock body efectively 'upside down'. Although this will add to the unsprung weight slightly it will massively aid cooling the reservoir and shock by getting it into the airflow and away from the hottest part of the bike! It will be the same as this one, but without the hydraulic preload adjuster.  Last but not least, we have been working on a new tail unit based on a Suzuki GSXR1000 unit that will give lanky Phil a bit more room on the bike, as at 6'2" he gets a bit cramped and ends up sitting on the tail unit! The new one will hopefully be ready but is still at the painters, so it may have to wait till next time out.  I will get the race report done as soon as possible after the weekend | ||
