Paid $6,700 last fall on eBay for my 0412S with 160 miles. Picked it up myself.
We're talking about a used motorcycle here. How much would you pay, as a percent of the new price, for a motorcycle that may well have been beaten into the pavement? People don't buy Buell's to baby them, so the likelihood of a gently used Buell is pretty low. Try getting a decent price for a used dirt bike!
I, too, will keep the XB until it is no more. These aren't bought to be sold. Sorry your selling it, hope it goes well, but I wouldn't go $7,000 unless you happened to be in my neighborhood and I could test drive it and knew its history. To get over $7K I definitely would not be counting on eBay.
Funny, I was thinking about taking the Mensa test. WTF. |

bought my XB12S in October of 2003. paid 11,000. I dont give the smallest floating nugget what it is "worth " now with 20,000 fun miles on it. it is MY BIKE and I will ride it. in about 4 minutes. see ya. |

I've never understood selling vehicles on ebay. It's hard enough to tell what kind of shape a car/bike is in when you test it in person (how long will it last after I get it home?). To try a long distance purchase based on photos? I wouldn't have the balls for it. I always go local-ish, usually the online traders that let you select a maximum range from your local zip.

Hey Robino-
I've looked at your 12R twice on eBay. I've actually had it in my Watch list both times. However, that shipping from Florida to Michigan brings the price up too high. If you were in closer striking distance for me, in Northern Michigan, I might give it a shot. Summertime is Too busy for me to make that road trip. It's an awesome looking Firebolt. But since Saturday, my focus is on an '07 Firebolt from Daves, in Appleton.

A HD dealer in New Orleans is selling holdover 05 Firebolts for $6000. That's probably going to limit what you can get for yours. |

you guys just don't get it...
i've sold a 99 hayabusa with some work on ebay just about 5 months ago, for $12,000.
i've sold an 05 vrod on ebay about 3 months ago for $13,500.
i've sold an 05 Triumph Speed Triple on ebay about 4 months ago for $8,000.
this is just recent sales, having to sell a 2 year old bike for almost half of what it cost new is something totally new for me.
I don't buy bikes to keep long, i change bikes like i change underwear, call it what you want, the Buell market is dead as fried chicken compared to other bikes.
To answer the question, why i'm selling?...
Cause i like the S better than the R. I have both. |

Roino, Buell retail price is way too high to begin with relative to loosely "comparable" Japanese bikes out there, like R6, RR600, GSX600, etc, albeit not in the same league. You got to ask who's going to buy Buell. Very small market. I've been tracking used prices for XB since they were introduce. People asking way too much don't sell. Realistic selling price is between $6000-$7000, regardless of mileage for "new" used XB. |

Check out Kelly Blue Book for Motorcycles.
Scroll down on that home page, click on motorcycles in the lower left, enter your ZIP code on the next page (to get accurate info for your area), and it will take you to the page that has sections for trade in and retail values for used bikes.
You can look up the model and year and get an idea on the market value of your bike. These prices are based on selling histories, not high hopes or opinions of value.
It also tells you typical mileages so you can get a feel for whether or not you are buying or selling a high or low mileage vehicle.
I recently sold my M2 through a word of mouth sale and, according to KBB, I got $55 less than retail for it. I might have done a little better on eBay or through advertising but I'm not sure. I'm happy with what I got for a no hassle quick sale.
KBB works from a buyer's viewpoint also.
After selling my M2 I bought a '97 H-D FXD Dyna Super Sport. And, according to KBB and a couple of knowledgeable friends, I got a very good deal on that.

for my zip, for my mileage in the condition my Buell is they price retail at $7390
trade in comes in at $5110
I guess i'll try ebay once more and see where it goes. I'll also take it to the Tuesday night bike meets here locally to see if there's any interest, since there's mostly young blood that goes there, i doubt there will be much of it.

No way dude, it's a nice bike, i ain't giving it away, i'll wait for a buyer who will pay what the bike's worth. I don't think i'm being unreasonable here at all.
Bike's worth all of $7400, if i had someone offer me $7000 cash, who knows, i may fold...but i ain't a crack head, so i'll wait it out.

I`m sure its a nice bike, but i wouldn`t pay more than $6000 for it.
I know several Buell dealers that still have 2005 brand new with 0 miles in stock that they are tring to sell for less than your asking for your bike with 2 years or wear and tear on it. Did you buy it new? and what did you pay?
I say get out and ride it, cause i think your gonna be a hard sell at that price. |

It is a hard market for Buells. I live in Wichita and it took me almost 6 months to find one that I wanted and didnt have to drive far away. I bought my XB9S because I loved it. It sucks the resale value on these bikes is so low. I got a heck of a deal on mine. I wish I had some money I would like a 12. |

This isn't all that hard to figure out.
When you can buy any thing cheaper than suggested retail, way cheaper, it's a deal. The other side of the story is that since it didn't hold it's value when new what makes you think it will hold a high value used.
This is a motorcycle, not stock, just ride it. |

You guys have it all wrong with eBay.
I've sold two bikes on eBay and got near what I was wanting for them. Here's the secret.
Spend the money for the extra large pictures and fancy formatting. Put in your description that you are selling the bike locally and you reserve the right to end the auction early. Sure, the ad might cost you $40 or so, but you'll get tons of exposure and have a nice link to the bike you can post on various web forums.
Now, here's the kicker. Price that sucker at a fools ransom for an opening bid. Don't fool around with reserves. Then do a buy it now only a crack head on a 3 day binge would consider. Then sit back and wait. You'll notice in the item stats under "My eBay" the number of watchers you have, however, due to the high price, no one will bid. That's fine...just be patient.
Soon you will start getting emails asking about the bike. As soon as the auction ends, your email box will get flooded with offers to buy the bike for less that what you had it listed at.
Pick the high bidder, contact them, and do the deal. If you're lucky, you may get a decent offer before the auction ends. If you're really lucky, you'll get someone who wants the bike so bad that they pay your opening price for it. |

Buells are odd-ball motorcycles for odd-ball people. Buell buyers tend to be eccentric motorcycle enthusiasts who are tired of pricey Italian stuff, bored with British stuff, and want something modern that is cool and interesting. These kinds of bikers are experienced at purchasing bikes, and will wait until the right one surfaces. Also, they are emotionally attached to their bikes and keep them many years. Given the long time of ownership, it can make more sense to beat your local dealership down on the price of a new one.
I also, have been close to buying a very nice one-owner Buell from another State, but the extra time, cost and effort to get it here starts to outweigh a new bike. |

too many buells on ebay goin for cheap its a tough market unless u got a gixxer or busa or R-whatever.... ive had mine on craigs list for weeks with 0 bites for 6700 u wont have much luck sellin a buell unless u ask less than its worth....mine books for 7 grand il never get that out of it....i just sold a salvage title R-1 for 6200 advertised for all of 2 days....buells are a buyers market....the whole u can get one from a dealership for 6 grand is a little misleading u wont walk out the door for that unless ur one smart sumbitch and the dealer is hurtin....good luck dude. by the way badwebbers il take 6500 for my 05' 9 with 3000 on it  . |

Yeah, got my 3600-mile '04 R in March for 6100 on eBay, picked up myself.

Buell is the way to go for a used bike. Dirt cheap! Buying cheap means when the time comes to sell, you don't feel you have to get more than the market will bear. Feeling that way is a recipe for unhappiness.

You don't have to take that test if you already have qualifying SAT or ACT scores or any of a whole bunch of other test scores. Some Buell guys are just ordinary Harley Davidson riders as opposed to the poser Harley Davidson riders. Just guys that always thought the Sportster should have evolved into what is now Buell. As a Harley Davidson rider (XL and FXRS) I lusted after the early Buells but started buying them in the S1 and S2 days. Have had a bunch and still ride my M2 and XB12R almost every day.
If I had wanted to go faster I could have purchased a Jap bike, if I wanted an investment I could have purchased H D stock, no silly me, I just wanted the best, most fun street bike, one I can get parts for in the coming years. Did I mention reliable?
