So who rode to work today? I can't think of a better bike for slipping through congested NYC traffic than a Buell. Instant HARD acceleration to slip into the smallest gaps in traffic, and it's tiny enough to actually fit BETWEEN the tailgaters! Got to work in less time than it usually takes me by train/subway!

"I can't think of a better bike for slipping through congested NYC traffic than a Buell."

NYC... the only place I've ever seen an MV Augusta chained to a telephone pole.

I rode to work today and didn't realize it was ride to work day.

LOL...ditto. I also discovered that a hardcover book fits perfectly inside the BRAG fanny-pack thing that they gave out as a gift for the NE Adventure (I think?). That thing was definitely the best gift I ever got out of BRAG...I've gotten a lot of use out of it and since this little discovery it will likely see even more.

Forgot all about that : ) This is the first day I've caged to work in a month too. Riding home yesterday got stuck for 30 minutes in a construction zone and was freaking broiling -- and the Uly AC unit isn't functioning very well ;)

Today was a PERFECT day. Not only did last night's thunderstorms clear out the OPPRESSIVE humidity blanketing the area for the past week or so, but the storm caused all kinds of scattered outages on the Long Island Railroad. I was blissfully ignorant of that until I arrived at a half-empty office. It's GOOD to be a biker!

I ride most every day. Today is the day mostl likely to encounter morons on 2 wheels.

As for the perfect NYC commuter bike, that would be one of the following slightly lowered:

Honda XR650L
Suzuki DR650
Suzuki DR400Z-SM
Kawasaki KLR650
any older 4 stroke 350 or bigger dual sport
any older 2 stroke 175 or bigger dual sport

The best Buell would be the CityX, but, it's a significantly bigger investment that my list. I could buy 3 maybe 4 used KLR650's for the cost of 1 CityX and I'd not be nearly as pissed if a KLR were stolen, not to mention the KLR would be rather low on the theif target list.

>>>>where do you park in nyc?

I'd avoid the sidewalk. There used to be an "unofficial" place near 45th and Lex.

The New York City Motorcycle bulletin board used to have info members kept current. You can learn more here.

Here's bit of local info.

My office is here at Union Square with all the NYU students, New School Jazz Conservatory, School of Theatre, hippies and models....parking is abundant and mostly occupied by old Triumphs, Nortons, Royal Enfields and Zundaps

I'm kinda keen on parking in garages, as I did with Road Thing on Saturday, but, alas, look what I find in the news this morning.

NYC Parking . . . we pay about $500/mo for Vick's car

Today's one of those days when I wish my commute was greater than 6 miles/12 minutes... the temp for the ride in was just under 70 F, the ride home'll be about 88, and there are no clouds. The only downside is the interstate construction near my house, but it's for a bridge replacement so there are speed restrictions but no closures.

Anybody print out one of Andy Goldfine's propaganda sheets and hang it someplace at work?

By the way. . .if you ever park in a residential area, say around 86th and 2nd, and see a 20CY dumpster sitting there for a rehab project....resist the urge to chain your bike to this large immovable object.

Truth is it is a large MOVABLE object.

Don't ask.

>>>you ever get up around harriman??

I have no idea. I am a terrible navigator.

I am thinking about adding a GPS but am wondering if.....having the ability to KNOW where I was....I might be less inclined to go some places.

My riding is a bit like Werner Heisenberg's Theory of Uncertainty....to wit, "if I know where I am, I have no idea how I got there; if I know how I got there I've no idea where I am"

I'm not sure where I am now, but I know I drove today.

I've never heard that one before.

Harriman is up towards the end of the palisades parkway.
All twisties. I don't think that there is a 1/4 mile of straight road in the park. It can get busy on the weekends.
And look out for cops.

I've never, in almost 4 years working here now, seen another bike in the parking lot.

I know for a fact that there are several other people here that ride (I hesitate to call them 'bikers')...I guess they're 1) afraid of getting their khakis dirty or 2) think they can't pack what they need on a bike (they should look at mine some days!).

I ride just about every day in the spring, summer and fall.

I don't have dedicated rain gear, so if it's raining, I toss one of those yellow rain suits on over my gear. Yeah, I'm one of those fools!

So yeah, I rode today.

We had a nasty storm last night in my neck of PA that knocked alot of stuff onto the road and killed the electricity in my surrounding areas. So for safety sake, I left the bike home.

I had ridden down to the beach and back monday - tuesday.
