What r some ideas for a helmet lock on an XB? I don't want to drill into the frame or anything like that. I got a $500 helmet and I want it to be safe when I go into the mall or local eatery. What do you suggest? Does Buell make one for the XB?

Thanks!

I use a cable style gun lock.

Helmet on passenger peg, cable strung thru helmet visor around peg mount.

I used to use Barenders. They were the most convenient thing I ever had on a bike. Not 100% theft proof but what is? I had to give them up when I got handguards for my bike but I'm seriously considering ditching the guards & getting a new set of barenders. Currently I have a small retractable cable lock from aerostitch. I rest the helmet on the passenger peg & run the cable through the helmet & passenger bracket.

I bought a cheap helmet lock from J.P. cycles & drilled 2 holes in the cover that holds the headlight & instrument cluster on an xbs lightening

Buy a helmet lock for a Uly from a Daves.. like $40.. then retro fit it on the bike somewhere. In my case, on a cityX.. I took off the reflectors on the bike except for one of the hangers in the back. I mounted the helmet lock onto that hanger, as if it was meant to be there!

I went to a marine shop and had them swag a 1" hoop on each end of an 1/8" stainless steel cable, 3' long ($2.00)
I then dipped both ends in that liquid rubber you use to coat tool handles, Etc.
I keep the thing coiled under my seat, then when needed, I can run my racing jacket and helmet through with the cable, hook one end under the seat to a bolt & lock the seat down.
Small, light & effective.

I keep a small Master padlock with the shackle through the outer hole on the right footpeg. There's nothing to fabricate, it's unobtrusive, out of the way and always there when I need it. Then, when I need to lock two helmets, I take out the 24" vinyl-clad cable with loops at both ends (sold by Aerostich / RiderWearHouse.com, $5) from the storage area under the seat.

On a lightning - I just slide the D-Ring from the helmet strap on the post that the seat slides onto then put the seat back on and it's locked. I took the strap that is on the seat off to make this easier as it is right over that area.

I assume the firebolt is much different.

Oh yeah...your helmet will hang right over the passenger footguards and are prone to get scratched if you are not careful.

I guess I am either stupid, or live in an honest part of the country.

I either hang mine on the footpeg, or flip up the triple tail on my Ulysses and set it there. I don't secure it in any way. Figure if someone wants my nasty, smelly, sweaty helmet...they can have it. : )

Most times I put my Helmet over the barend and just leave it, as I am never all that far from my bike. I also have a small cable lock that I use for my skis/snowboard in the winter if I am going to be away from it for a while. I only have 350 miles on my xb so far, so haven't had a chance to use it, but have done so on my marauder which lacks a place to lock it. I noticed there was a piece of wire in my tool kit that claims to be for your helmet, does anybody use that?

DOESN'T THE TOOL KIT HAVE SOME CABLE THING IN IT FOR LOCKING YOUR HELMET? IS IT JUNK? I ALSO DON'T LOCK MY STUFF AS I LIVE IN A FAIRLY SAFE,QUIET,COUNTRY AREA IN MA. I'M NEVER TO FAR FROM MY BIKE SO I'VE HAD NO NEED AS OF YET. I DO PLAN ON DOING SOME TRIPS THIS YEAR AND WAS THINKING IF I HAD TO LOCK IT I COULD DO SO W/ THE CABLE SUPPLIED IN THE TOOL KIT....I FEEL I MAY BE WRONG HERE AND MAY THINK OF HAVING THE FAB SHOP MAKE ME SOMETHING..ILL HAVE TO CHECK BACK AND SEE WHAT THE HOT SET UP IS..

damn "CAPS" button!!!!sorry

if i don't leave my helmet unsecured and hanging on the bar or the peg, i use a portable lock with four fingers and an opposing thumb. no one has attempted to steal it yet.

I don't undo my chin strap, just loosen it, then I hang the strap over the left rear blinker and drop my gloves in the helmet. If it looks like rain or I'm worried about someone stealing my ugly, dirty helmet, then I use the 4 finger lock that Xtopherj mentioned.

I drilled off the reflectors and used the brackets as mounting points for the locks. They are on both sides and are keyed the same. I used perm lock-tite on the nut so it wont come off without a fight. You can't ride with the helmet on the locks though.

Buelltroll,

not real aesthetic, but it is an elegant solution. I'll have to try that.

I carry a small skunk, that I put in my helmet when I'm going to be away from it for a while. Downside is I have to feed the skunk.

Buellerx, that is absolutely brilliant!
I think I must copy your design.
Where did you get the locks?

Again, that is freaking amazing. I would have never have thought of that!

I just carry a cable lock and put it through my chin and out the visor. Its cheap and very effective

I used the "Helmet Guardian" helmet locks. I took them off the bracket they came on and mounted them to the reflector brackets.

Do a search for Helmet Guardian and you can find them for around $40/pr on the net.
