So Im going to be gettin one very soon, but for those that have tuned with the DL is it about the same as a SE Race Tuner? I know how to tune those and im sure i can do this. just wanted to see if they are about the same. also does it matter if you tune with the Race or Stock ECM?? cuz hell if i can use the stock that will free up some $ as i will be able to sell the Race ecm. last question does it raise the revs? or stay at 6,800?

this will be goin on my 04 with Stage 3 heads, open air box, force exhaust.

I asked Al the other day about the stock or race ECM and he said it does not matter,thats a plus for me too. Thats all I can help you with, dont know about the rpm issue? Its not cheap for everything I think close to 350.00, because you have buy a key that costs 250.

Yeah i know its not cheap but i work at a Dealer so i may be able to work some magic on the price lol. and hell i can prolly get 100ish from the race ecm.

I can confirm that yes, it does NOT matter if you use the stock or race ecm. I do not know if you can increase the RPM limit. Unless you are a technoresearch dealer, I'm sure you will spend $250 for the key, $100 for the software. Plus whatever expenses for mapping the ecm. The key and software are NOT a Harley Davidson or Buell item!

Well I am a tech and i know how to do PC and Race Tuners so I just wanted to know if its about the same...but if i figured the RT out im sure the DL wont be a problem.

I may just call Technoresearch to see what i need to do to become a dealer...im sure once i get mine all of the other local buellers will want one.

You can use your stock ECM and get the same performance.

We have dealer pricing for HD/Buell dealers that get the dealer the key at a discounted price so that they can sell to customers at normal retail. All Buell dealers are automatically set up as American Sport Bike dealers, so if your dealer sells it to you with little or no markup, you can get it cheaper. But that's between you and your dealer for whatever employee discount program that they have.

hhmm so if i can use the stock ECM. I still dont know if it bumps up the revs but. If it dont i basically could put on a XB9 ECM and tune that.

Wont you just blow it if you raise the revs? Throw a rod, munch a valve, something like that?

yeah it could happen, i dont plan to run it up to 7,500 all the time. I go to some *cough* street races *cough* and it maybe nice to have the extra revs and even the little extra top speed. but ill never know till i try. I have a shift light on the XB so i just gotta keep the light to come on and 6.5 and i wont have to worry about hittin the limiter. i also think the Stage 3 heads should keep the valves from floating

Has anyone raised the rev? What happens to the power curve? I'm just wondering if the motor has anything left up that high.

i looked at my dyno and no it dont look like it has much left, but who knows what ill do, i sure dont want to waist $300 and have it not work right, i will prolly just use the stock ECM in the end. its just an idea thow....i just dont wanna be the first

Raising the rev limit starts beating up the bottom end. That's the first thing to blow up when constantly revved high. If you're tearing down the motor pretty often, you can check run-out on the crank but really I'd recommend not wanting to bump up the redline.

Also, the hard rev limiter that racing modules use (spark interrupt 1/2) adds to the injury to the bottom end. Stock rev limit is (I believe) 2-stage: 1/4 and then 1/2 progressive over a few hundred RPM's where the race ecm is just a hard limit.

At the present time you can not increase the Rev Limit using Direct link. Raising the limit presents a few issues concerning engine life. The rev limit on a Buell is about piston speed and valve spring life. The longer stroke of the 12 limits the limit to about 7,200 and the short stroke of the Blast or 9 can go up to 8K. There is no point in the increase unless you have installed cams and a exhaust that works up there. Keep in mind there is plenty of HP and Torque you can bolt on without increasing the rev limit.

Road racers need more revs to support gearing choices. If you have the bike geared for the top end you need at the fastest part of the track, you sometimes need just a few 100 more RPM to keep from hitting the limit going into a turn. We spin our AFM F4 XB to 8,200 and could go higher but our valve springs would loose some life. ... Terry

yeah i was kinda thinkin that if i did put on the 9 ECM that even if i did shift at 6,800 that i would never hit the rev limiter or even the soft limiter do to its red line is at 7,500.
