Just called the dealer I bought my bike from and they wanted $140 to mount and balance my Pirelli's if I bring the bike and tires to them. If I bring the wheels and tires in it's only $70. I've called other places and they are cheaper on option 2 by up to $30. How hard is the rear to get off the bike? It seems like I heard you needed a special tool or something. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

The tool should be in your tool kit. I suggest investing in a shop manual first, its a big help.

Mark...takes about 10 mins to get the wheel off the rear.

I take mine to a local cycle shop....www.cyclegear.com 30 bucks.

If you bring the bike in we charge an hour per wheel.
We are at 65.00 per hour
If you just bring in the wheels its an hour for both

They do the same Dave. Except they get $70/hour. I'll take them off myself and bring to a less expensive local shop. Thanks to all.

Thats what I do. I take the wheels off and bring them to a sport bike shop. I found one here that will do it for $15. The guy has a top notch reputation and a guy i ride with (RC51) takes his bike there also.

Just a reminder - If you don't do it yourself, and don't take it to the local Buell dealer, remind the tech that Lefty ain't lousie on the front axle nut!. The axle nut has a left hand thread.

I just went to a local shop here, they charged $50 total for the front and rear change. That was on the bike too.

we are 50 per wheel on bike, and 25 per off bike... still seems like alot to me. thats why i tend to swap them my self unless i am in a pinch.

We charge half hour for off the bike or one hour per wheel on the bike our rate is like $65hr...but if ur my pal and i take your wheel off the bike at ur house ill swap it on my lunch if your buyin

Do any of you guys give a discount for buying the set of tyres from your shops? Most places in Aust will mount for free in this case, wheels on or off.

So, Mike......if I take my wheels off, bring them to you (with the new Pirelli's and a pizza) what do you charge? I live in Tecumseh. Where do you work in Toledo and is your place Buell friendly? Tecumseh Harley, where I bought it, is a little disinterested in th bike. Thanks.

Yep I am "The Buell Guy" at Toledo H-D. Id like to think that we are(or at least that I am) Buell friendly. I do 99% of all the Buell work that comes in the door. I could probably hook you up swaping out the tires on like a Sunday or someting. Or if you want i can talk to my manager to see if he will give you a deal on just droping off the bike and ill take the wheels off and swap out the tires for you while you wait. Just let me know.

place in town here they will change the tires for you for 25 bucks a rim. so i am happy about that. cycle clinic.

I guess I am pretty lucky that I have a guy that owns a small bike shop and does my mounting/balancing for free so long as I bring him just the wheels. alot of shops round here specialy in the spring do the mount/balance for free if ya buy tires from them... But I to cheep and he does good work without damaging the hell outa my rims. I just never forget to buy him a beer now and then when we go on a ride.

I'd rather remove and replace the wheels on my bike--and since I prefer the tire selection pricing I can get over the net, and I don't feel right taking "outside" tires to a shop for mounting, I do my own mount/balance as well. It ain't hard, but I gotta say it took me maybe more than 10 minutes to get the rear off (I removed all the belt guards, right side peg assembly, and tensioner wheel to make sure I could just slide the belt off with absolutely no twisting or other stress).

BTW, when I talk about better selection and pricing over the net, it's significant! The local shops (keep in mind, I am not even near any major urban centers) would prefer to sell what they stock--which means Bridgstone, generally. When I mentioned Pirelli Diablos at one place, they first had to look 'em up (didn't know what I was talking about), then proceeded to tell me they wouldn't be any good--he could tell just by looking at the tread pattern! Oh, well...
