Thanks to all for the hard time about my XB9s actually being a low.... but here is a question and mabye a redeeming solution. I have a friend with a brand new 05 XB12R, who desires to have feet a little closer to the ground. Could we swap rear shocks and front fork springs? Forsee any problems?

Oooop's there is one issue. You will need 05 triple tree for a XBS model and your friend will need the triple tree for a 03 OR 04 XBR MODEL then it can be done.

So the actual forks have to be swapped, not just the springs?

Easy, just swap the forks and the lower tripple tree.

Should be fine.

Yes because the fork on the 05 is a larger Diameter fork.

So If I got a hold of a set of standard springs for an 03, I could just swap the springs? My friend and I could swap rear shocks and then I could order standard springs for my 03 from the dealer and she could order springs for an 05 XB9scg to put in her XB12R?

It would be easier to just swap the entire forks.
Unless you really want to open up the forks and play around in there.

In that case, instead of getting stock springs, you might as well go with some aftermarket sets that are exact for your weight and riding style.

Didn't the XB12scg have the same diameter forks as the 04 and 03?

I don't think she can get the lower springs without getting completely new forks.

Yep, new sidestand is a must, if the height is changed.

Not sure but I think besides the difference in spring lenghth between standard & low forks, the valving is different as well.

9S low & 12Scg forks are 43mm.

The valving is different.
Better off to do like Craig says and swap the entire fork.

"Nope, 41mm"

Doh!!! Thank you very much for catching that! I need to start proof reading my posts.

Yes low forks are 41mm. standard S & R forks from '05 up are 43mm.

to clarify, you will need to swap shocks, complete forks, lower triples, and kickstands to make it work.
If you do all that you should not need extra parts.
Right?

/edit link to other thread with pics of parts needed to change less the kickstands:

OK, can't compete with the GIFs.

Recommend you note the front brake line routing for both bikes before Low/High suspension swap. I had to re-route brake line when changing from Low to regular ride height forks. If there's an actual difference in brake line length for the two suspension configurations, then swapping brake lines should remedy.

And yes, forgot to include the sidestand in suspension component pic, as linked above from your other thread. Definitely swap the stands: lean angle of bike with High suspension + Low sidestand is sketchy!
