Anyone mounted 190 rear tire instead of 180? Is it possible? Whats your opinion?

It will probably work. I mounted a 180 on my YZF and it started with a 160. I think it will effect the handling of the bike a little, but if that is what you want do it.

Marcus, the std 180 is basically there for it's good looks and many people here would recommend you stick with it or maybe try a 170/160 for the best results in the twisties. I've seen a Firebolt with a 190 Diablo Corsa and it looked good but for sure it ruins the handling.

I have a 190 on my 12S.

It handles better.

I think it looks good with a fat rear tire, but on my tl1000 i owned before this, many switched from 190 to 180 for better handling...

At highish lean angles a 190 will stand a little under braking. It will also get to it's edge a little earlier.

Rich... How much strip do you have left on your front tire?

My guess is that a 190 rear would indeed handle better in Florida. Not in the North Georgia Mountains though, and that's where I ride.

I use a Supercorsa pro 190 on the track and it is fine, if anything the handling suits me better. When the tyre gets hot (very) the clearance to the belt is small so watch it. For me the big advantage is that lots of guys racing GSXrs, R1s Blades and ZX10s dump pretty good 190 section tyres after one race and they work great for the XB.

I assume they're more rounded than the D207 then?

I think ill get a Michelin pilot road 190/50zr17 ,good mileage for everyday use! I got a good 6000miles (10000km) on the TLS from it!

Isn't that what is on the XBRR? How much difference geometrically is the race bike over the stock set up?

M1,
I don't really know whether the profile is more rounded but it certainly looks it, and people have said in other threads that squeezing the bigger tyre onto the rim causes it to be more rounded and there is no doubt that the cornering ability of the XB with decent tyres is beyond anything I have ever experienced - those 207s are lethal though. I have to admit that the ready availability of cheap used tyres was a major factor in my choosing the 190 but having done so I am convinced it was a good move.
I should have mentioned that the SuperCorsa Pros are not street legal as far as I know.

I have a 190 on my XB wheel setup on my V-rod. The fit on the wheel isn't a big deal, you could probably fit a 210 on it. But there looks like there might be a clearance issue with a bigger than 180 on the XB Buells. Looking at my XB9S it looks to be pretty tight with a 180!

my old 9r is on its second 190. works great and i push them hard. i am very happy with them. the newest one still has near new dunlops on it so i'll run those till i need to replace them more than likely(if i can convince my self to leave those things on I HATE THEM SO MUCH), and will probably go 190 with it also.

I have wide strips on my front tire. I do live in Florida.

I ride all over the USA.

a 190 rear tire is designed for a 6" rim and a 180 for a 5.5". 190mm=around 7.5" 180mm=around 7.1" think about how much the tire is gonna have to fold in on the smaller rim. You'll get a tire thats less than 1/4" wider than a 180, I've measured it before with a pair of tire calipers and made some people feel dumb. What you do get between a 180/55 and 190/50 is a shorter sidewall. The shortened sidewall and wider tire give a flatter profile and do affect handling, but remember you also fold the edge of the tire over because of the narrower rim. The edge of the tire is steep to the point that you probably wont ever get rid of the chicken strips unless you lowside. Just speaking from experience I had a 190 dunlop 208 on mine when I bought it. I destroyed it in the process of making a smiley face and promptly mounted a set of pilot powers with a 180 rear. :-). But if you must have the 190 still, I know a 190 dunlop 208 will fit.

As per Buell XBRR specs:
Rear Wheel 5.75 x 17.0-inch Cast Magnesium
Rear Tire 190/55R-17

So you don't necessarily need a 6.0" wide wheel, but it is going to slighty pinch the tire out of true round. Just comes down to how it feels for you. If you like the wide look and don't think that it affects handling within your riding style then do it!

With the 300/330 during the week you can rent it out to the highway department as a steam roller.
As long as you don't have to turn any corners to get there!

"how much strip do you have left on your front tire..."

This is just some SAD reading for me. I have 4200 on my 12R's stock Dunlops, and they have nearly no visible tread wear. My only b**ch has been that over the last couple hundred miles or so, the rear broke loose a couple of times when I leaned over enough to fall off the big flat band on the middle of the tread... while making 90 degree turns on the street. Guess that's what happens when you live in SE Michigan and mostly commute. I'm changing to Scorpion Syncs tonight, stock sizes.

Maybe I'll try Pilots or Metzelers next - geez, like it would make a difference given how I usually ride the thing. It's threads like this that make me wanna ride straight to the Dragon the next time we have a nice weekend!

ya thats a 360. we have one on the way to our shop right now. they are massive but when you are going to be running it behind a 400+ horse jet engine i guess it makes sense, lol. they make the 280 on our other jet bike look like a front tire!

Nasty,
A 190/55 is different than a 190/50.

There's no reason to run a 190 on the street Buell other than you like the way it looks. If you are really after handling, go the other direction, like a 170/60.
